About Coco Tang -Asian Cafe

Coco Tang -Asian Cafe is a Vietnamese restaurant in Nottingham at 8 Byard Ln, set over two levels with a rooftop terrace and additional seating downstairs. The bar sits in view of the dining room, so cocktails and drinks are prepared where guests can watch. The menu includes pho and a pork belly bánh mì, with sharing platters alongside. Asian-style cakes are kept on display, among them a vegan chocolate and banana cake, and a vegan coconut and lemongrass curry with rice gives plant-based diners a main course. A queue forms at busy times.

Customer Review Summary

The pork belly bánh mì is the dish reviewers name most, described as tasty and quite spicy, with soft bread that has just the right crispiness, and one diner paired it with a Vietnamese beer. Close behind are the tofu and the soft shell crab, both praised for addictive sauces. Others mention the pho, the platters, and a vegan coconut and lemongrass curry with rice. Portions are called generous, and staff are described as friendly and fast, even on busy days. Cocktails and cakes also draw mentions. The upstairs terrace is a favourite in sunny weather, but one reviewer warns that it is up a flight of stairs with no lift. Other complaints are smaller: a queue at Saturday lunch, with one reviewer suggesting booking ahead, a curry with far more potato than expected, some orders tasting slightly different from before, and no kids menu. One diner was told the service charge is added automatically but is optional, and chose to pay it.

“I visited on 21/8/26 with my daughter, we were served by Sola. This is the best restaurant I have visited for a long time, one of my all time favourites. Such amazing food at a great price. Fabulous cocktails, fabulous service and ambience. I will definately visit when I am next in Nottingham. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon x”

“Great food and great atmosphere - overall, lovely experience. If you are looking for somewhere cheap to eat, this probably isn't it; however, it was certainly value for money for us. Lovely, fresh ingredients, easy dishes and very friendly staff. Cannot fault it. Would definitely recommend.”

“Even though it was raining we asked to check out the rooftop and im glad we did.. we managed to find a table where we didnt get too wet while we ate but as the rain increased and we'd eaten, we finished our drinks inside. The food was really good, the staff were lovely and the place itself was really nice - good value too! Will be going back when im next in the area..was visiting a friend and she hadnt been before so it was nice to find somewhere new for her too. We went for one of the platters which was a good choice, with a couple of extra dishes though i will definitely go for a proper main (or two) next time !”

“One of the best restaurants in the whole of Nottingham. Seriously. I mean seriously!! The food is utterly to die for and the terrace is the most wonderful place to be when it's sunny. The drinks are also very nice. The quality of everything served here is absolutely marvellous. Staff are careful and attentive. We were a big group and a couple of people arrived late. Everyone was served well. There are downstairs seats available but the terrace is up a flight of stairs and there's no lift. Be warned if you rely on mobility aids.”

“Visited first time for midweek lunch after a Google search on recommendations. I've never been into Nottingham centre before so I needed my Google maps to find the place on a little side street. Service was great, waiter recommended the pork belly bánh mì chào which was really tasty and quite spicy, went really well with a Vietnamese beer. I saw some reviews about the 10% service charge, the waiter explained that it's automatically added to the bill but was optional! I chose to pay the tip as the food and service were great.”
