About The Wallow | Self Service Wine Bar

The Wallow is a self-service wine bar on Exchange Street in Norwich, where guests load a wine card with credit and pour their own glasses from dispensers holding 56 bottles on tap. The team explains how the process works and offers a small taster to start, and guests can refill whenever they like. The list includes a Slovenian Sauvignon Blanc, with sparkling wines and Champagnes alongside. Food comes as sharing boards, including the Wallow board plus meat, vegetarian, cheese and charcuterie versions, and an extra bread selection can be added. An amaretto cocktail and veggie crisps are also on offer for those who want something beyond wine. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

Sharing boards are the most frequent draw, with diners praising the wallow board, the meat and vegetarian boards and the cheese platter as beautifully presented, generous and delicious, and some add the extra breads. Close behind is the self-service wine concept, where a topped-up card lets guests pour from the machines and try many different wines, which reviewers call fun. A Slovenian Sauvignon Blanc and a dessert wine earn individual praise, and one reviewer singles out an Ammaretto cocktail with veggie crisps. The atmosphere, decor and music are described as relaxed, lively and great. The one reservation is cost: one reviewer found the food expensive for what arrived, namely Camembert, olives and stuffed peppers. One reviewer recommends booking ahead because the place is popular. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and lovely, with several explaining the self-service process and giving a little taster to start.

“Wedding Anniversary gift from the children . Fantastic night great atmosphere . Staff were lovely and explained the whole wine self service process to us. We opted for a Sharing Charcuterie board and helped ourselves to the wine throughout our time here. We chose the most expensive wine on the menu to treat ourselves and it was very nice. Finished off with a dessert wine which was perfect.”

“Really enjoyed this place! The wine card system is a fun idea, you just top it up and help yourself to loads of different wines from the machines. Great selection too. The cheese and meat boards were delicious and clearly good quality. The place looks great inside and the staff were super friendly, explaining everything and giving us a little taster to start. Would definitely go back!”
