About Donnelli's Pizzeria

Donnelli's Pizzeria is a pizza restaurant in Norwich, at 17 Timber Hill, where thin Napoli-style pizzas are cooked fresh in a wood-fired stone oven. The kitchen is open, so the oven and the chefs at work are in plain view from the dining room. Pizzas come in small or large, and the menu offers a wide variety with unusual names and creative toppings. The team also accommodates bespoke toppings for anyone who wants their own combination. Dough balls with garlic butter sit alongside the pizzas, and the limited dessert list includes tiramisu. At lunch, a menu offer and a meal deal pairing a pizza with a drink are available. Tap water and chilli oil are free.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the thin, wood fired Italian style pizza, with several singling out the base and the freshness of pizzas cooked in a stone oven. Close behind are the friendly, attentive staff, one of whom set out high chairs ahead of arrival for twins, and the wide choice of pizzas, including bespoke toppings. The garlic butter dough balls and the tiramisu get specific mentions, and one reviewer was given extra garlic dip for free. Small and large sizes suit kids and light lunches, though a couple of diners found the individual pizza too small if hungry. The lunch offer draws repeat visits, and several call the value reasonable for the city centre. The main complaint comes from one detailed Saturday visit that fell short of earlier ones: loud dance music from the open kitchen, a single chef, and no food after 20 minutes. A pizza was forgotten for another table, and two pizzas took over an hour, so that diner asked to take them away. One reviewer suggests booking so as not to miss out.

“Excellent service, pizza and value for money. Given everything is cooked fresh and in a stone oven, it’s exactly what you expect and more. Service was attentive and friendly. Cost is in line with what you expect for the city. Would recommend booking so you don’t miss out.”

“Very good Italian/Napoli style pizza. The names of the pizzas are a bit weird compared to what people are normally used to but there is a great variety to choose from. The atmosphere and music are nice. You get the odd kid making a bit of noise but they shut up once the food arrives. The dessert options are limited but the tiramisu is good. If you are a hungry fellow the individual pizza is going to be too small but for a light lunch it's perfectly adequate. Price is reasonable for a place in the city centre with a wood fired pizza oven.”

“Thin, delicious Italian style pizza. This is the third time I come here. The staff are friendly and happy to help with anything. Free tap water and chilli oil which was nice. Multiple seating indoors and outdoors. Found in central town. They also have a meal deal going on starting from as little as £9.99 for pizza and a drink bundle. They have a small pizza and a large pizza option I wish I went for the larger size as I was hungry still as it was delicious. Not too claustrophobic. Although unfortunately no student discount. 10/10 experience definitely would come back again.”

“We called about 5 mins ahead to check they had tables available. By the time we got there the lovely maitre-d had already got two high chairs out ready for our twins, and was just great with us the whole time we were there, washing up bottles and putting us at ease. It’s quite difficult dining out with two little ones and she made it so much easier. The pizzas are really delicious and really cheap. Been coming here for years, love this place.”

“Incredible food! Brilliant service and a nice atmosphere to relax in while enjoying amazing food. Honestly one of the best pizzas I've ever had. We had a small pizza each with dough balls covered in garlic butter and it was all beautifully fresh piping hot and delicious. We found 1 small pizza each with balls was just the right amount of food. We will definitely be back.”
