About Rice & Spice
Rice & Spice is an Indian takeaway at 16c Earlham Rd in Norwich. Weekday specials run on the menu, and the Wednesday set meal combines a papadum, an onion bhaji and chicken tikka masala, with rice and onion salad alongside. The vegetarian dishes can be made vegan, apart from the cream-based ones, so vegan diners have options beyond the meat curries. The kitchen also cooks chicken tikka in other forms, including chicken tikka rogon. NHS discounts are offered.

What reviewers say
Reviewers most often mention onion bhaji, chicken tikka masala, saag aloo and chicken tikka.
Customer Review Summary
The onion bhaji is the item reviewers praise most reliably, described as crispy and delicious even by diners who disliked the rest of their order. Chicken tikka comes next, with one reviewer calling a chicken tikka rogon full of flavour and another saying the tikka was cooked perfectly. Portions are called generous, and several mention good value, kind service and food arriving early or warm. One reviewer adds that the vegetarian dishes can be made vegan apart from the cream based ones. The complaints are just as concrete. Several find the sauces bland, naming a watery tarka daal, a saag aloo without much taste, and a chicken tikka masala that was sweet with coconut and no spice. A regular reports an overcooked, tough chicken balti, and another received a cold meal with a curdled korma, was refused a replacement meal and was offered only a replacement korma. Contact with the restaurant did not always go badly, as one diner with a delivery problem says staff sorted it quickly after a phone call.

“Ive never had issues before, meals usually amazing with friendly service. However meal was cold and the korma kurdled, called the restaurant to ask for another replacement meal but refused. No refund offered, korma alone was offered. The whole meal was supposed to be a treat and it was a waste of money. I thought the restaurant would be kind enough to replace the meal. Unable to request refund theough deliveroo as delivery still says pending from yesterday evening. Such a shame. Will not use again. The whole point of a nice meal is an entire nice meal.”

“ordered a takeaway twice from here as our local curry house; the men inside are so lovely and kind, the food is cooked to perfection, all of their vegetarian dishes can be made vegan (apart from the cream based ones) leaving lots of choice, and they offer nhs discounts! highly recommend to all 🤍”

“Ordered from just eat as web site wasn’t easy to use coming to pay the chicken was juicy not dry and 6 chunks so enough chicken, the sauce its self was enough but had no flavour. The sag lots there but again no flavour. Everything is a little bit water. It’s worth the money if you work out how to pay in the web site but not worth the price on just eat . I wouldn’t use them again tho . It’s more like a home made curry from a shop . It’s ok but not curry you would imagine Indian women making , full of love and tase”
