About Fupburger

Fupburger is a hamburger restaurant at 18 Bedford St in Norwich, now based at Three Stories after moving from the Ten Bells. The beef comes from locally bred Simmental cattle, butchered and aged by Alex Long and family of Clarkes in Hevingham, which puts the distance from farm to fork at about 10 miles. The demi brioche buns are baked locally by small bakers. The menu runs from the Thug Lyfe burger with black pudding to a veggie burger, with halloumi bricks alongside. Loaded fries work as a sharer, and chicken tenders can be swapped in for the chicken wings. Orders are placed at the bar downstairs, and the restaurant is walk-in only.

Customer Review Summary

Burgers draw the most praise, with one reviewer calling theirs the best they have had, another calling it delicious, and a veggie burger that left friends unaware it was meat free. Close behind are the halloumi bricks, described as huge, and the thug lyfe burger with black pudding. One reviewer suggests treating the loaded fries as a sharer. Staff are called friendly, and one bartender waived a family's drinks and later gave a discount after a busy service forced them to return. The complaints cluster around the Three Stories venue. Several report long waits for food with no warning at ordering, and orders arriving wrong, including burgers missing toppings and wings in place of tenders. Others find portions small, chips charged extra, and the music too loud for conversation, and several say it was better at the Ten Bells. One reviewer reports an upset stomach afterward, and another found the loaded fries practically cold. After a long wait for a missing order, a supervisor offered a free drink as an apology.

“This seems like a great setting for a few drinks but it was awful for food. Too loud but fair enough, got over that. Our friends ordered their food and seconds later I ordered ours and said same table number, we were not made aware of any wait for food, not many people were eating at the venue it was mainly drinkers. We waited ages for our food, I had taken medication and started to feel unwell so checked with the waitress, it had been around 45 mins at this point, she went and checked on the food status and came back a few minutes later and said it would be out in a couple of minutes, she brought our friends meals and said she would come straight back with our food so our friends waited to eat theirs. She never came back, at this point I had to complain to someone else who seemed like a supervisor or more in charge, she wasn't particularly apologetic or caring, she said it was essentially out fault for ordering separately from our friends as orders go missing when they are busy,I said they ought to say if there is a wait on food, it had now been 57 minutes waiting, she offered a drink for free as a token apology. Our food arrived shortly after, the burger was delicious but the loaded fries were practically cold. Would never eat here again and a waste of money. Avoid.”

“After loving the Fupburger in the Ten Bells, I am quite disappointed with it since being in the Three Stories. I came in last week being the first time trying it in the new location and the young girl behind the bar greeted us with “we don’t serve food” then she checked her phone and realised the time was 12:30pm so they do serve food. They didn’t have the ingredients for a burger my friend ordered so she had to select something else from the menu. My food came along with her side of fries but as the young lady was bringing them out she dropped some on the floor and on herself and laughed it off and said only a few fell on the floor and handed my friend her fries.- she should have took them back and re-done them. We waited ages for my friends burger to come and when it did it wasn’t what she ordered as she asked for it without sauce etc so we had to wait even longer. I re-visited again since then and ordered some chicken tenders. On their new menu they have the chicken wings but it says you can replace them with chicken tenders so when the person behind the bar was repeating my order I made sure they were coming out as chicken tenders and not wings. The food came to us and they came out as wings so it had to be sent back and corrected, which is disappointing when I made sure when ordering. I was also disappointed with the portion size of the fries. I’ve added two photos to this review one is from when it was in the Ten Bells and you can see the difference in the chips compared to how little you get now for the same price. Both times visiting the new location it was very quiet as it was a weekday so the service is quite poor for it being quiet. Fupburger has gone down-hill in my opinion and seems like others agree that it was better in the Ten Bells🤷‍♀️ The price is extortionate for what you get. We ordered 2 drinks, chips and chicken tenders and it was £33.”

“Was really looking forward to trying FupBurger in the new Three Stories location, but it really fell short of our expectations. Firstly, as a table of 3, two of us received our burgers and chip portion, and our other friend didn’t receive their chicken wings and dough balls until 20-minutes later, this was brought with no apology or acknowledgment that she was left waiting with no food when ours were nearly finished. Secondly, the food portions are a lot smaller than anticipated, especially considering the marketing of fupburger, which seems to portray this large and bulky portion sizes, but the reality was super underwhelming. I also think not including chips and charging extra for these is extremely cheeky, and not worth the price alone. Thirdly and finally, the food was subpar, and we all ended up having an upset stomach following our visit, wouldn’t recommend and wouldn’t visit again. Which is a shame as I had heard really good things when Fupburger was based in 10 Bells.”

“Having enjoyed several positive visits to The Bell in the past, I was genuinely looking forward to trying Fupburger at Three Stories. Unfortunately, what should have been a straightforward meal turned into one of the most disappointing dining experiences I have had in a long time. Upon arrival, we found a table and placed our order downstairs. We were then left waiting for approximately 45 minutes before approaching the bar to enquire about our food. At that point, we were informed there was a waiting time of over 30 minutes. While delays can happen and are understandable during busy periods, it is basic customer service to communicate this at the point of ordering. Had we been informed of the expected wait, we could have made an informed decision. What made the situation particularly frustrating was the complete lack of communication throughout our visit. After waiting for over an hour, with no update or apology offered, we had to ask again about the status of our order. We were then told it would be a further 15 minutes. Our food eventually arrived after approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. To add to the disappointment, the food itself did not match what we had ordered. We ordered two different burgers a Fire Chic and a Cheesy Cluck Old yet both appeared to be identical. The advertised toppings were either missing or barely present, with no noticeable sauce and almost no bacon. After such an excessive wait, we simply did not have the patience to send the meals back and start the process again. What is most disappointing is that this experience falls far below the standard I have previously associated with The Bell. Delays can be forgiven, mistakes in the kitchen can be forgiven, but poor communication, dismissive customer service, and incorrect food arriving after such a prolonged wait are much harder to overlook. Finally, the overall atmosphere was not helped by the appearance and conduct of the door staff, which did not project the level of professionalism one would expect from an establishment seeking to build a positive reputation. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience left me feeling thoroughly let down. There was every opportunity to recover the situation through honest communication and attentive service, but unfortunately that did not happen. Based on this visit, I would struggle to recommend Fupburger at Three Stories and have no plans to return.”

Highlights

“Welcome to Fupburger, Norfolk's OG purveyors of gourmet filth. We only use prime cuts of locally bred Simmental cattle, ground to our own secret blend. Farm to fork is approximately 10 miles using nothing but Norfolk's finest beef. Our cows are bred, reared, slaughtered, butchered and aged by master butcher Alex Long and family of Clarkes in Hevingham, just 15 minutes north of the city. Our demi brioche buns are all baked locally by small artisan bakers. Congratulations. You have arrived!”
