About New Sunrise
On Kingsley Park Terrace in Northampton, New Sunrise serves Chinese food across dine-in, takeaway, and a weekday set menu built for one or two people. The kitchen covers a wide range of Asian and Chinese dishes with separate vegan options, and General Tso's Chicken is a recurring order. Every meal starts with a free appetizer before the main courses arrive. The dining room seats around 70 guests under low lighting, with a step-free, wheelchair-accessible entrance and high chairs for families with young children. Reservations are recommended, and a service charge is added to the bill automatically. Parking in front of the restaurant is very limited. The restaurant opens Tuesday to Sunday and closes on Mondays.

Customer Review Summary
The sharing platters and set menus for two draw the most praise, with reviewers repeatedly calling portions generous, sometimes filling diners up before the main course even arrived. Close behind, individual dishes get singled out, including General Tso's Chicken as a stated favourite, Fried Squirrels with duck egg paste, and beef with rice noodles described as tasting authentically Hong Kong style. Several mention takeaway orders as a long-running habit, though more than one reviewer notes the food tastes better eaten in. Value comes up often, with weekday set menus and modest bills praised as good for the experience. A few caveats recur: one diner questioned wheelchair access given a small entrance, another objected to an automatic service charge on a table of two, and one found the low lighting so dim it felt like a power cut. One reviewer's evening was also marred by another table's swearing. Even so, most describe the staff as attentive and the food freshly made, with one regular saying the takeaways have kept them coming back for years.

“Food and drink was very good as was the service. The biggest problem is the lighting in the restaurant, actually the lack of it. We genuinely thought there had been a power cut when we first went in to the dining room.”

“Flipping love this place they’ve been providing me with tasty, comforting and all round perfect takeaways for years and I’m sure they’ll be doing so for many years to come.”

“Our first time here after seeing a video review on Facebook. The food was average... probably because they don't use MSG, but the presentation was good and we couldn't fault the service and attention from the staff. If it wasn't for the lady who was constantly swearing a few tables away, we'd have given it 5 stars for atmosphere.”

“What a little gem! Food was really good, tasted freshly made. The restaurant was really busy on a Wednesday evening - a great sign. Staff were really lovely, helpful, polite, attentive and very welcoming. We had the set menu for weekday, the sharing platter was delicious but filled us up ahead of the main course. Main course was served with lots of rice, and a wonderful selection of vegetables. We are not big eaters so would probably order separately next time. But at £23 per head seems good value. Bill came to £70 - we had 2 cokes and 2 Chinese lagers. I was a bit miffed that the service charge was automatically applied to the bill - we were a table of 2. Of course we were always going to leave a tip, but I feel the bill should be just for the food and drink, and then customers should be allowed to leave a tip on their terms. The way the staff are, I'm sure most would tip anyway. We'll definitely return.”

“South East Asian food restaurant, Fired Squirrels with duck eggs paste, taste great. Beef cooked with rice noodles, taste was very original as HONG HONG style. Malaysian fired rice spicy but taste was delicious. Will come again.”
