Quick info
About Waakye Joint Northampton
Ghanaian cooking anchors the menu at Waakye Joint Northampton, a West African restaurant on Wellingborough Rd. Banku and tilapia with pepper sits alongside jollof rice, which comes with chicken, fish or beef stew, and a handful of Nigerian dishes fill out the choices. The kitchen leans spicy and sends out large portions. Afrobeats plays for anyone eating in, and the dining room has been recently refreshed. Tables are taken on a walk-in basis, and the restaurant opens daily.

Customer Review Summary
Jollof rice is the dish reviewers raise most, served with chicken, beef or fish and described as spicy but not too much, in big portions. Close behind are the chicken and beef stew and the banku with tilapia and pepper, which one diner says "hit different". Several also praise the affordable prices, the variety of Ghanaian and Nigerian dishes, the clean room, and the afrobeat music that plays for dine-in. The complaints are few but specific. One reviewer says the beef stew has changed to small, dry pieces of meat that leave the rice with no sauce, and another found a lunch box of spaghetti, chicken and beans too expensive for food they felt was microwaved. One reviewer mentions a single bad customer service experience, and another reports food poisoning. Positive reviewers still point to generous plates, and one diner thanks the kitchen for the big tilapia.

“The place has recently transformed, looks clean, l noticed the potion is good but beef stew has changed to dry meat which leaves rice with no source at all ,small pieces so dry and unbearable to chew. Please bring back the tender beef . Other wise all is good.”
