About Bettys Café Tea Rooms
Bettys Café Tea Rooms is a tea house at 189A High St in Northallerton, with a menu that runs from afternoon tea to casual cafe meals of British food. The Fat Rascal is served alongside a Yorkshire cream tea, and the scones include a cheese option in place of sultana. Loose leaf tea arrives in a Wedgwood cup and saucer, with a lemon slice, honey and an extra pot of hot water. For a savoury plate, the kitchen makes a Haddock, Salmon and Prawn Gratin, and the coffee list includes a flat white. Tables often have a wait at busy times, and staff welcome guests at the door. A shop on site sells cakes and chocolate, and you can make purchases from your table and have them brought to you.

Customer Review Summary
Diners return most for the fat rascal, described as gorgeous and gooey, with the haddock, salmon and prawn gratin close behind. Soup of the day, warm scones, a flat white and loose leaf tea also draw praise. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, polite and helpful, and one server swapped sultana scones for cheese ones on a Yorkshire cream tea. Several describe the room as calm and welcoming. The main trade-offs are cost and waiting. Reviewers call it pricey for the quality, with one lunch for two described as a treat rather than an everyday meal, and a few mention queuing for a table, though others were seated within minutes. One reviewer sent back raw chips and was offered replacements, but the item stayed on the bill. A couple holding their wedding afternoon tea were given two large chocolate gold coins as a gift.

“My favourite of the various Betty's tea rooms around North Yorkshire. Smaller and not as busy as the others in Harrogate & York so generally you dont wait as long, always good service and very nice food. A little bit pricey but thats what you expect with quality. Generally go at least once when visiting the area.”

“A delight as expected. Soup of the day was delicious. The loose leaf tea served with lemon slice honey and an extra pot of hot water. Beautiful wedge wood cup and saucer. Could not visit without having a Rascal. All of the people working there were polite efficient and friendly. Will be back.”

“Surprisingly quiet on a Saturday morning- so lovely and calm. Staff here treat you very nicely indeed, and are a credit to the company. Coffee was excellent- espresso lovers who find cappuccinos too tame will appreciate the flat white. Fat rascal was gorgeous. Will be back!”

“After a small gathering for our wedding we chose this lovely little abode for our wedding afternoon tea. The staff where just so friendly and kind and welcomed us with big smiles and this was whilst there was a waiting time and lots of peiple huffing and whinging like spoilt little brats and some of them I would say in their 60s and 70s it was actually disgusting as the staff team tried their best to make everyone happy. This was on a Monday lunchtime no less. I cant thank the beautiful team enough for what was a wonderful and happy experience 😊 I highly recommend a visit and yes you may need to wait for a table well that's because its popular and for good reason. We where given 2 large chocolate bettys gold coins as a wedding gift and wont eat them as we want to keep them forever for memories sake ❤️ Thanks again for a beautiful memory 😘 ❤️”

“What a lovely setting, but you do pay for quality, so be warned. We stopped for lunch. I had the betty burger and my wife had the haddock, salmon and prawn gratin. Washed down with a tea and a coffee. It was all delicious, well presented and the staff where very friendly, smart and attentive. However, this lunch was just over £49, so a treat that’s not for every day!! The cakes and chocolate in the shop also looked fantastic, but we didn’t buy anything from the shop.”
