Customer Review Summary
The main caveat is how busy it gets. One reviewer was told the food would take half an hour, another says the kitchen struggled to cope at times though the food was worth the wait, and one starter arrived late. A visitor who ate there twice during a short stay suggests booking early. One reviewer found the focaccia dense, more like ordinary bread. Reviewers also recall a manager offering a free drink to apologise for the late starter.

“I came in for a snack and ended up having a delicious bowl of fish chowder followed by S.T.P. - sticky toffee pudding. Everything was delicious and Meg, who has the nicest smile in North Berwick was exceptionally pleasant and helpful.”

“Absolutely loved this place! Such a lovely atmosphere with live music, amazing food and brilliant service. Everything we had was delicious and the whole evening was just spot on. A special mention has to go to Lee, our waiter, who was exceptional. So friendly, attentive and genuinely couldn’t have looked after us any better. We’ve eaten at a few places during our stay, but this was easily our favourite. If you’re in North Berwick, definitely put it on your list!”

“Meg was fabulous! Welcomed us when we sat at the bar. Drinks came quick and she also recommended places to eat back in Edinburgh. Great conversation!”

“We were only in North Berwick for four nights but chose to eat at The Herringbone twice because we enjoyed it so much the first time. It has a real buzz about the place which adds to the enjoyment of their great food and delightful staff. Not surprisingly it was very busy so make sure you book early to avoid disappointment. It is well worth a visit......or two.”

“Highly recommend the Herringbone. I went for lunch today after a recommendation online and it did not disappoint. I visited alone and I was made to feel really welcome upon entering. I asked about parking and the waitress who welcomed me was very helpful. The restaurant is warm and inviting with plenty of seating in the front and back of the building. Soft furnishings and warm lighting throughout creating a really cosy atmosphere. Toilets are clean and nicely decorated. I don’t believe there was a step at the entrance so wheelchair accessible. The staff are friendly and attentive. I was seated right away and the service was quick. I ordered the squid rings for starter and the sliced steak for my main. Both were incredible. I will definitely be back to try out more of the menu because everything sounded delicious. I was able to get parked outside and used the Ringo app to pay for parking, although there are machines nearby. You are allowed 90 minutes and this only cost me around £2.20. The beach is within a 2 minute walk. Please try this place out if you are visiting North Berwick.”
