About The Bull Steakhouse

Steak is chosen at the counter at The Bull Steakhouse, a steak house on Beach Rd in Newquay, where diners pick their own cut from the meat fridge and pay by the ounce for exactly the size they want. The chef weighs and cuts the meat in front of you, with the thickness left to the customer and a minimum weight of 8oz. Fillet, sirloin, rump, tomahawk and lamb are among the cuts, with garlic butter and peppercorn among the sauces, and sides, extras, desserts and a soft drinks selection round out the six-dish menu. Beer and Yellowtail Shiraz sit on the drinks list, and Fried Shrimp is on offer too. The kitchen will halve steaks so a couple can share two different cuts. This is a family run place, open daily in the evenings, quieter early and busier later on, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

The counter ritual dominates: reviewers pick their own cut from the meat fridge, watch the chef carve and weigh it in front of them, and pay by the ounce, described by one as a proper bit of theatre. Fillet, tomahawk, rump and sirloin all come up, along with lamb ordered for a child, and several call the steaks cooked perfectly with decent portions. Close behind is the staff, repeatedly called friendly and welcoming, with the family run feel singled out. Also praised are the garlic butter and peppercorn sauces, the desserts and the soft drinks selection. The recurring reservation is doneness: one party found their medium steak arrived medium rare and the other three looked rare, though they chose not to complain, and another enjoyed a mid rare sirloin that was definitely undercooked. One diner also felt the sachet condiments sat oddly against the cost of the meal. Several say they would return, and one pair recount the chef offering to halve two steaks so they could share.

“Celebrated our anniversary in Cornwall and loved it so much we came back the next night! The staff were fantastic, and the steak was hands down the best I’ve ever had. Worth every penny—highly recommended! Oh yea not to leave out their amazing garlic butter and peppercorn sauces! We even recommended to a family we met earlier and they left with smiles on their faces!”
