Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the squid sandwich, describing a mix of rings and tentacles that is delicately battered and perfectly seasoned. Close behind are the anchovies, with one calling them the best they have had, and the sardines, scallops with black pudding, panzanella salad, Cornish tuna belly and octopus rice. Several praise the servers as lovely and knowledgeable about the dishes, and the bar seating and wine get a mention. A few say the prices felt reasonable for the quality, and one describes a view over the bay. The main criticism comes from a single reviewer who found the meal overpriced, with thin anchovies in unpleasant oil, a salame priced too high, and an octopus rice of overcooked, salty rice with only a few small pieces of octopus. That reviewer felt the dish was poorly described and said their complaint went nowhere, though they credited the waitress for trying to help. Another reviewer's only downside was the outdoor toilets. Another diner's birthday visit ended with a chocolate ganache from the staff.

“This spot came highly recommended for a night away in Margate and it definitely lived up to the hype! We sat at the bar and the atmosphere was fantastic-great chatty, knowledgeable staff and lovely wine. The food is simple but just really well done-the squid sandwich is a real stand out, as were the scallops with black pudding but everything was spot on. Really can’t fault it!”

“Tasty and well executed menu. Service was relaxed and knowledgeable. Good vibes. Only downside is outdoor toilets. 🤷🏼♀️”

“Sargasso was my best meal of 2026 thus far. It was great. I loved the squid sandwich and I loved the sardines but really everything was delicious. Special shoutout to our waitress Paige who was so on the ball and attentive. We had a truly fantastic time. [just a note to say that Margate often smells of sewage, and you can obviously smell this sewage when you are sat at Sargasso outside, but it is just a fact of Margate life it seems].”

“Had a tip-top lunch here. The squid sandwich is something else. A wonderful mix of rings and tentacles, delicately battered, perfectly seasoned and dressed. Can’t think how that could be improved! Perfect! We also had the chickpea and spinach stew, which was well spiced, plus a Cornish tuna belly, which was lightly seared and very delicate. Highly recommend a visit here. Thanks!”

“Booked a table inside but when we turned up we requested a seat overlooking the water and one was available looking over the bay. The food and wine was incredible, every dish had so much flavour. The service was amazing, all the staff very lovely. Can absolutely recommend. Would be a lovely spot in winter also inside and looking out to the water!”
