“Ludlow's newest old watering hole, now with two rooms to let in the heart of Ludlow. We are a free house serving regular session beers (HPA, Ludlow Best, and Hobson's Champion) alongside guest casked ales and 8 kegged beers and ciders. We also serve excellent wines from Tanners, all manner of spirits and soft drinks, and, from time to time, food in the West Mercian Tapas tradition. There's usually some chat, a warm stove, and Friday night is music night upstairs at L.O.S.T. You'll find us at the top of Old Street right under the back-end of Price Rupert's pony. Please note it is a condition of our license that we close the doors an hour before closing so no entry after 10.30pm (9.30pm on Sundays).”

Customer Review Summary

Beer is the draw reviewers raise most, with Jaipur, a Bavarian pilsner, Sarah Hughes and Great Newsome Golden all named, and one reviewer calls the Hughes and Newsome halves excellent. Friendly locals and bar staff who seem like old friends come up repeatedly, and several describe a proper, welcoming pub that suits visitors new to Ludlow. Close behind is the upstairs room, described as a compact, atmospheric music venue, with one reviewer mentioning salsa lessons going on up there. One reviewer praises the pies, and another admires the artist painted Prince Rupert sign. Guests of the Pepper House Rooms call them beautifully presented, comfortable and quirky, with a host who went above and beyond. The caveats are small. One reviewer finds some of the conversation intrusive for quieter people, another says the front door lock needs replacing, and the toilets sit up steep stairs. Two staying guests were handed a beer on the house when they arrived.

“I stayed in The Pepper House Rooms on the evening 8th April, which are beautifully presented, & met the host, Andrew the Host, who went above and beyond, I can not recommend them enough, superb value, friendly atmosphere and right in the centre too.”

“Didn't eat, but had a beer (on the house, as I was staying in the associated accommodation). Lovely beer in a little pub, with friendly locals, well worth checking out when in Ludlow.”

“Looks like a period house but for the fabulous artist painted Prince Rupert sign that needs to be viewed from both sides to be fully appreciated. The Old St Tavern (O.S.T) is a Unique pub and a must visit when in Ludlow. It has a personality all of its own. The bar staff really are at your service and seem like old friends. The locals are a friendly bunch and the beers are great, often including Jaipur and a fabulous Bavarian Pilsner whose name escapes me. I have never eaten at the Old St Tavern in fact I didnt know they did food. So we have a great pub, but wait, there's more, upstairs is a compact and atmospheric music venue that hosts some great talent. Don't miss out, get yourself down to the O.S.T. !”
