About The Thirsty Goat Derry

The Thirsty Goat Derry is a bar and beer garden in Londonderry, on Shipquay St, with live music played seven nights a week. The venue has a pub bar area for drinks and a separate dining area, so a visit can be as short as a pint or as long as a meal. Guinness is served at the bar, and the food menu includes steak and a smash burger with chips. Weekend plans can centre on the bottomless prosecco brunch, which pairs one meal choice with unlimited prosecco for up to 2 hours. Brunch guests are then moved to a reserved table.

Customer Review Summary

Diners most often praise the food and friendly staff, led by a steak one reviewer calls the best they have tasted, with others pointing to good portions, good drinks and live music with a good atmosphere. The kitchen draws mixed reports, though: a smash burger whose patties were not smashed and chips that could be crispier, and on another visit an overdone steak and dry, chewy goujons. Service lapses recur as well. Reviewers describe staff chatting in a corner without checking on tables, bar staff throwing out drinks by mistake and shrugging when it was raised, and one rude exchange over a replacement. One reviewer reports being asked to leave while ordering during a GAA private event and attributes it to an English accent. A bottomless brunch guest says the reserved table was not held long and a deposit had to be disputed before it came off the bill. On a family visit, children were offered toys and given sweets when the bill arrived.

“I was in here recently on a Sunday and the food/ service was shockingly bad. There was a total of four customers in the place and the food took an hour to come out and when it did come out it was awful. The steak was overdone and the goujons were dry and chewy. I would have alerted the staff to this but they sat in a corner chatting the whole time and didnt even come to check if we needed anything or if the food was ok. We wanted the bill however they never approached us so we went to the bar to pay and the staff continued talking with eachother for another few minutes before coming over. Unsurprisingly they didnt ask if the food was ok etc they just really didnt care and it showed.”

“Ordered a smash burger, but the patties were everything but smashed. Tasted okay though. Chips could have been a bit crispier. Service lacked a bit that day. 3/5 - müsst ihr selber wissen.”

“Called in today, ordered a Guinness then spoke to the barman when I asked to order food, then he told me to leave as it was a private event for the GAA although others were eating, I then asked about my Guinness and he asked me to leave and he will give it to someone else. There was plenty of other seats available to sit at, totally disgraceful just because I had an English accent and the bar full of GAA Players. Money is money, its not about religion or faith. Avoid this discriminatory bar if you visit.”
