About Kitchen Theory

Kitchen Theory is a fine dining restaurant and multisensory experience design studio at Celtic House in Holborn, London, open daily. Its Chef's Table uses sound, scent, light and texture to shape how flavour is perceived, and Chef Jozef Youssef talks guests through the science of perception during the evening. The multi-course tasting menu introduces each course with a description of what inspired it, and some dishes carry a sustainability message, including a jellyfish burger. Vegetarian dietary needs are catered for. A small team runs the evening as a supper club, and guests arrive through an old-school elevator into a dry-ice entrance. Private dinners and group bookings are available, and the studio also designs brand events and private group experiences for clients internationally.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers center on the multisensory tasting menu, where sound, scent and light are used to show how perception shapes flavour. Several describe an 8 course menu in which each dish arrives with a short account of the science or inspiration behind it, and they say the food holds up beyond the theatre. Close behind is the chef's talk about the science of flavour, which one reviewer found genuinely fascinating. Others single out the dry-ice entrance, a sustainability message carried by a jellyfish burger, and the wine. One vegetarian says the supper club catered to their needs, and a reviewer who hosted a private dinner says guests praised the menu the chef and team designed. Another plans to book a private experience with family and friends. The only reservation is a light aside about the old skool elevator on the way in. Reviewers repeatedly credit the small team for personalisation and attention to detail, and one notes how few staff deliver such a high level of service.

“Last night at Kitchen Theory wasn’t dinner. It was a carefully orchestrated experiment on my senses… and I loved it. Chef Jozef Youssef doesn’t just cook…he composes. Somewhere between a scientist, an artist, and a mystical showman, he’s built something that sits far beyond the traditional restaurant model. This is gastrophysics in action - a world where sound, light, texture, aroma and memory all conspire to reshape how you feel flavour, not just taste it. The evening unfolds like a series of beautifully crafted illusions. One moment you’re questioning your own palate, the next you’re laughing at how easily your brain can be led. It’s playful, intelligent, and just the right side of provocative, the kind of experience that reminds you how much of “taste” actually lives in the mind. What I loved most is that beneath all the theatre, the food stands on its own. This isn’t gimmickry dressed up as innovation, it’s genuinely delicious cooking, elevated by a layer of storytelling and sensory design that feels closer to a piece of immersive theatre than a supper club. If you’re a foodie, this is a must.”

“Kitchen Theory was a birthday present for my friend’s 50th - and it was as fabulous as he is. From start to finish, it was an incredible, informative and immersive evening that perfectly blended exceptional food with the science behind it. The experience goes far beyond dining: it’s a journey through taste, perception and creativity, delivered with outstanding service throughout. Head chef Jozef Youssef was clearly deeply passionate, and listening to him talk about the science of flavour and taste was genuinely fascinating. A truly memorable experience - thoughtful, entertaining and delicious. Highly recommend for anyone looking for something unique and special.”
