About Sandpiper Inn
Sandpiper Inn is a gastropub on Railway St in Leyburn, set in an ivy-covered building where the rooms have wooden beams and fireplaces. The menu carries a limited number of main courses and changes with the seasons. Fillet steak is on it, a spearhead cut with a blue cheese sauce option, and dauphinoise potatoes come as an alternative to chips and are gluten free. For dessert, the crème brûlée is served with a homemade ginger biscuit. Dogs are welcome, and reservations are required. The pub has no car park, but there is free parking on the road in front.

Customer Review Summary
Fillet steak is the dish reviewers raise most, called beautifully cooked and tender, one version with blue cheese sauce and dauphinoise potatoes. Close behind are the cheese soufflé, the creme brûlée with a homemade ginger biscuit, and the sticky toffee pudding, which one diner says deserves a prize. Others single out the lamb and beef cheek, venison meatballs with a bean sauce, and an oriental duck salad. Staff are described as friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and its seasonality, and attentive without being intrusive, and one group was let in early and served drinks straight away. Several mention a welcoming atmosphere, and one loves that dogs are welcome. The main complaint comes from one reviewer who found the portions small for the price: a main was gone in around ten bites, salt and pepper were needed, the menu offered only about eight mains, and the table left hungry. One reviewer who hadn't booked still found a table and suggests booking.

“We always go here when in Yorkshire. It’s a highlight of our visit. The food is amazing with interesting menus. Staff and chef are so efficient and such nice people. I think the atmosphere is the best. Especially love that dogs even are welcome.”

“We hadn't booked but fell lucky, I would recommend booking. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, very calm and welcoming. There were carafes of iced water already on the table, very welcome as it was a very hot day. The menu choices were varied and all sounded lovely - we both had the spearhead fillet steak, 1 plain and 1 with the blue cheese sauce and dauphinoise potatoes (gluten free option) they were both beautifully presented and so tender and tasty, highly recommended. Very attentive without being intrusive. Thank you.”

“Had lunch here last weekend. The pub was quiet on a Saturday afternoon. The food was good. The food was served quickly. The venison meatballs came with a nice bean sauce, making it different from the usual meatballs dishes elsewhere. The steak was excellent! The dessert was nice too. The pub didn’t have parking. There was free parking in front of the pub on the road. There was no wifi in the pub. There was no reception with Vodafone, EE seemed okay.”

“The food was tasty. But for the price, we all expected a bigger portion. Did need to add salt and pepper also. Spent £150 for 3 of us and left feeling hungry. Average £30 for a main meal, but was gone in around 10 bites! Shame because the service and taste were good. Also, not a massive choice on the menu, I think there was only around 8 main courses. Would say definitely overpriced for what you got. Definitely should NEVER leave a restaurant feeling hungry…”
