About Number One Chinese Takeaway
Number One Chinese Takeaway is a small family-owned Chinese takeaway at 65 Keightley Rd in Leicester, cooking Cantonese food to take away. Every order comes with free prawn crackers. The house special fried rice is made with king prawns and pieces of pork, beef and chicken, and the chow mein pairs prawns with pieces of meat. Banana fritters are on hand to finish a meal. Customer Review Summary
The complaints are specific. A customer of 15 years says a house special fried rice arrived with no whole king prawns and the chicken, beef and pork seemingly minced into a uniform mush, and hopes it was a one-off. Another walked out after waiting over ten minutes at the counter while both front-of-house staff were on the phone, and the order was never placed.

“We ordered a meal for delivery tonight. First time from new one and it was delicious. Our regular Chinese are on holiday so we thought we would try this one. Food was full of flavour, more than our usual one. Arrived within the time stated and was piping hot. It was even hotter than our regular Chinese and yet it was further away. The chicken balls beautiful batter and tasty chicken and huge. Number one chow mein thick pieces of tasty meat and prawns, curry was great, chips great and the prawn toast were twice as thick as they usually are and scummy. We even got free prawn crackers and it was delivered by a polite and friendly driver. 100% recommend. We will be ordering again. Thank you number one”

“Visiting my mother these past few days, working hard in her garden, needed a meal late evening. This place was open till 11pm as most closed around 9 or 10pm. Food was good, price also.”

“One of our favourite Chinese takeaways, food is good and the portion is big, price is reasonable too. I've been their customer for years now, never had a problem with the food and the service, it's a bonus that it's near my house.”

“Oh my god what had happened these last few weeks? Ordered a house special fried rice as I have last 15+ years. Food has always been bang on EVERY TIME.... until tonight. I used to love the individual king prawns that I would leave till last.... The big slices of pork beef and chicken as and when I wanted to choose to eat whilst eating the entire meal. TONIGHT was basically as far away as possible as acceptable that could be. No king prawns in their whole (reason why I buy this dish to eat at the end).... All meat was basically blended/minced in a food processor. The result? Terrible.... Every spoon was identical to the former..... No individual choice of chicken or beef etc.... Just a drossy pile of boring food. WHY? WHY HAVE YOU DESTROYED ONE OF YOUR BEST DISHES? Honestly, after 15 years of loyalty to number one and enjoying a consistent quality as expected..... What I received tonight was the worst Chinese eating experience imaginable..... If I can't enjoy a WHOLE KING PRAWN or a large piece of chicken/beef/pork at my leisure then I won't be using number one again....... Brutal dish.... Hope it's a one off...... Whatever you were planning pack it..... Feels like you're trying to reduce the amount of meat and prawns in mashing it all up so it can't be noticed...... Would you serve a Sunday roast like that? If we get one more dish like this blended dinner WILL DEFINITELY BE THE LAST....... SHAME ON YOU”
