About Mr Vongs
Mr Vongs is a Chinese takeaway at 55 Stockwell St in Leek, serving customers in the evenings only. The menu includes chicken satay and spring rolls, along with a salt and pepper share box for sharing. Opening days run from Tuesday to Sunday, and the takeaway is closed on Mondays, so a visit needs to fall on one of those six evenings. Customer Review Summary
Salt and pepper chips are the most frequent draw, with diners calling them some of the nicest they have had and done to perfection, though one reviewer found the salt and pepper share box dry and white with salt. Beyond the chips, reviewers praise a succulent, tender beef curry, a delicious Singapore rice, chicken satay, and meat spring rolls that stayed too hot to eat after a long drive. Several describe food arriving piping hot, and one says a request for no vegetables was followed. Complaints cluster around delivery, with orders running well past the quoted window, and one caller told that a large collection order and later orders came first. Another reviewer found the chicken satay unlike anything they had tasted and the chicken balls like cheap chicken dippers, and a first-time customer called the food bland and dry, with a sweet and sour sauce that tasted of watermelon. One customer who had ordered every weekend for six years was phoned after ordering and told the kitchen had too much on to make it.

“First time ordering from this Chinese and unfortunately I won’t be ordering in the future due to food was very bland and dry, small portion sizes for the price. The sweet and sour sauce tasted more like watermelon and full of gelatine. Disappointed as a Chinese isn’t cheap. Can’t pay on card has to be cash only.”

“Honestly, hands down one of the best Chinese deliveries we’ve ever had! We’re here on holiday And were recommended this place, By the owners of our Airbnb… And they listen to the instructions of no veg in my dishes And beef curry was absolutely succulent! And tender.. The chicken satay was lovely, And my Singapore rice was truly delicious.. We will be staying here again, just to have this Chinese delivery.. A truly succulent Chinese meal…..”

“Very annoyed and disappointed today. Having had a delivery from them every weekend for over six years we were badly let down. 40 minutes after placing our order we got a call saying they could not do it as they had too much on. So much for looking after loyal customers!!”

“Very disappointed, placed an order for delivery and advised 30-60 mins. Called as nothing had arrived after 80 mins to be told our order would be another 30 mins. When I asked why, I was told that an influx of orders came in AFTER ours and they had a big collection order that came in after ours. Basically if you’ve only got a small order they don’t care, shame as we’ve been regular customers over the years.”
