About Sukhothai Chapel Allerton
Sukhothai Chapel Allerton is the original Sukhothai restaurant, a Thai restaurant at 8 Regent St in Leeds that has been independent and family-run for 25 years. The kitchen cooks duck dishes and noodle dishes, and a special menu runs alongside the standard one. A buffet is offered on certain days, and a wine list accompanies the food. The dining room is decorated with statues, wall art and a fountain. The background music is English-language pop rather than Thai.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise the food and the friendly service. The duck dishes are one reviewer's favourite, described as well put together, and the noodle dishes are called fresh, with vegetables and proteins cooked perfectly and meals served promptly. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly, kind and courteous, and one family enjoyed the kids' platter and activities at a baby's birthday celebration. The most recurring complaint is the background music. Several reviewers say generic English-language pop, or something like phone hold music, clashes with the statues, wall art and fountain, and they ask for Thai music or piano instead. One reviewer was disappointed by the buffet, finding the selection limited, the taste different from one visit to the next, the pad thai terrible and the tom yum not authentic. Another ordered a takeaway from the Harrogate branch by mistake, phoned shortly before collection, and had the order transferred to Chapel Allerton at no extra charge.

“This is a near perfect restaurant, with its incredibly short wait times and great food, except the music chosen is absurd. the restaurant is adorned with these serene statues and wall art and a whole fountain, and to accompany the atmosphere is a perfectly curated playlist of generic english speaking pop songs. Some Thai or even generic piano would be great, the music clashes with the atmosphere they nearly create perfectly,”

“Been here many times over many years. Excellent food and superb service. Consistently excellent with a huge variety of menu options. The only minor irritation was the background music - not anything relaxing or authenticly Thai, but the kind of music you hear when on a phone call an you're put on hold at the doctors surgery. Not a huge deal but please- change the soundtrack!”

“I continue to be so impressed by this company. I actually ordered a take away and ordered from Harrogate by mistake. I called up 5 mins before I was due to collect and they were able to transfer the order to chapel allerton with no extra charge. I love this company, they are friendly, human and their food tastes fantastic.”

“On Sunday, I finally tried the buffet at this Thai restaurant. I felt the food quality could improve; the selection was limited, and the taste varied each time the food was served. I distinctly remember the first buffet being better, but the second one tasted completely different. The pad thai was also terrible, and the tom yum soup wasn't authentic. I probably won't go again. 🙂↕️”
