About The Hideout

The Hideout is a cafe on Harper Farm Cottages in Leeds, run as a family business with outdoor seating that looks out over a working farm and stables where horses can be watched. Coffee, cakes, and pastries are served alongside pies and pasties, with a carrot muffin topped in cream cheese among the options. The seating area includes leather recliners and a couch, and a play area with toys gives children somewhere to occupy themselves. High chairs suit visits with young children, and the step-free entrance works for those with mobility needs. Dogs are welcome throughout. It opens daily during the day, and there is no need to book ahead, as it works on a walk-in basis. Only one staff member typically works at a time, so a queue can form during busier stretches. Parking is available on site, including spaces with electric charging points.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers return most for the coffee, and the cakes and pastries come close behind, with a carrot muffin topped with proper cream cheese and a "Death by Chocolate" cake singled out by name. The setting on a working farm is a recurring draw: diners describe watching horses, stables and sheep from the outdoor seating, and call it tranquil, quiet and picturesque despite sitting close to Leeds city centre. Comfy leather recliners and a couch, a small play area that a four-year-old loved, and a regular who says the owner remembered their order from the first visit add to the welcome. Several describe the staff as lovely. The main complaints concern staffing and range. One reviewer found the queue slow with only one staff member working while the other was on a break, and another reports a decaf order was almost made as regular when the sole worker was busy. One reviewer wishes for more food choices beyond coffee, cakes and pies or pasties. Another says the sat-nav tries to send drivers to the wrong entrance.

“I've been coming here for about a year now, both to work or to just relax, and it honestly has become one of my safe places. As an AuDHDer I find new environments and new people quite challenging, but I felt welcome here from the moment I walked through the door for the first time. The staff are genuinely so lovely, every single one of them. Always up for a chat and always super helpful. Alex, the owner, remembered my order from day one, which made me feel even more welcome and valued as a customer. I spend a lot of time here and sometimes it's honestly just quite nice to sit and watch the world go by (and the sheep and horses lol). On a nice day I quite often walk over with my two dogs and sit outside in the sun enjoying my regular order that's basically already been prepped for me the moment I turn up 😂 There's so many different people coming together here and it's genuinely lovely to see. 🥰 I'm actually moving away soon and this place has become such a stable part of my routine (I come here multiple times a week) so I will genuinely miss it. A 40 minute drive won't stop me though, you won't get rid of me that easily! 😂 So glad I found this place. Thank you for creating such a cosy, welcoming place. 🧡”

“Great coffee, cakes and pastries. Nice spot for outdoor seating where you watch the farm and stables at work. Great for families, meeting friends or just stopping in for a quick coffee.”

“Quiet picturesque spot. Great coffee and pastries available. Had a "Death by Chocolate" today 14th January and it was divine!!”

“We had such a lovely time at The Hideout. It is an incredibly peaceful & quiet place, it was so relaxing watching the horses running around and hearing them neighing nearby. The cottage itself was spotlessly clean, which we really appreciated. It was scorching hot during our visit, but the air conditioning was absolutely fantastic and kept us cool. The only downside was the service, there was quite a big queue and it moved very slowly as only one staff member was working while the other was on break. However, the experience was still worth it. Be careful when following your sat-nav, It tries to take you to the wrong entrance, so keep an eye out.. Thanks”
