  “Wonderful roadside restaurant with fresh seafoofld menue. Our group of 4 had 2 seafood platters one with crab meat and the other with a 1/2 lobster. Also on each platter: cockles, smoked fish, anchovies, shrimp and home made salad. Very yummy. Reservations recommended and cash only.”

  “Really good good - had a salad with fresh greens anchovues, crayfish, smoked fish, crab and shimp. Presented very nicely on the plate. Nice friendly staff. I have wanted to visit ever since riding past ten years ago and i was not dissappointed. I recommend booking a table as they are very popular.”

  “A fantastic experience. Great selection of seafood dishes / sandwiches. We had the crab and the mackeral royals. Wow. A brilliant seafood platter served with new potatoes. This is a must visit. Very popular so maybe busy but well worth the wait.”

  “We bought some smoked garlic mackerel from Cookies on our last trip to Salthouse and enjoyed it so much we went back this time for lunch. It is a very small establishment with lots of rustic outdoor tables as well as a few inside. The menu is basically smoked fish and seafood salads, but it is so fresh and tasty. It is wise to book as they get unbelievably busy and they are a cash only business. We chose a smoked garlic mackerel salad, and a dressed crab royal salad which included prawns, crayfish tails, cockles and anchovies and cost £23 for two! Amazing value! We left with more garlic smoked mackerel, hot smoked salmon, Tiger prawns and another dressed crab- wish we'd bought more!😋 The service was quick and friendly even though a gentleman was taken ill and needed medical treatment. The staff adjusted their approach and everyone was served. I hope the gentleman made a full recovery.”

  “I've tried to come here over the last decade or so and everything I would turn up without a plan and could never get a seat here. Today I did and it was well worth it. It is a legend of a place and it didn't disappoint. The food was awesome. I will be back.❤️❤️❤️”

  “The food was average, very fresh but not exactly bursting with flavour. The crab sandwich was presented in the cheapest of sliced bread with a quite meagre amount of filling. Overall, not very impressed at all. I’m sure our money would have been better spent elsewhere. The service was terrible. The staff were very unfriendly, bordering on rude, and it really ruined the atmosphere. We were refused tap water very bluntly, because they felt that supplying such to their customers would bankrupt them! They also only accept cash, which is not a huge problem, but does, I suspect, limit their custom and make things rather inconvenient. In conclusion, I couldn’t recommend the place, and would suggest those planning to visit will find a warmer welcome and a better meal elsewhere. Avoid.”

  “Highly recommend this place. Food is out of this world. This time I tried Crab Royal salad.£12.50. Dressed crab, prawns, cockles, smoked mackerel and anchovies with delicious homemade potato salad and crispy fresh lettuce, cucumber, beetroot and tomatoes. Will definitely visit again when in Norfolk. You need to book as it is very popular.”

  “Found this little place by accident, so glad we did. The Salad Royals are amazing, had a little bit of everything on them. Super value for £12.50. Roll mops were also delicious. Great that you can take your own plates in for take away - handy for our campervan - dinner sorted.! Very laid back and chilled which was perfect. Will come back”

  “A Gem. Lovely, friendly service and fabulous fresh food. If you are looking for some seafood, in particular, then head here. On the coast road, heading North, on the coast road you could easily miss this small cafe. Keep your eyes peeled and your belly empty and prepare your taste buds for some delicious treats. I thought reasonably priced and good sized portions. I could go on but, as ever, just get yourself there and I am sure you won't be disappointed by what's on offer. Plenty of off road parking, outdoor and indoor seating. No toilet I'm afraid but there is a public toilet across the road which you can use for 20p. All in all, very good and would recommend.”

  “WARNING — READ THE REVIEWS, IT’S A 50/50 CHANCE OF WHAT EXPERIENCE YOU WILL GET… I was visiting Norfolk for the day with some friends (3 women, 1 man. 2 of us are non-White and 2 are White). We walked in and the man behind the counter (I assume one of the owners) served us. He behaved as if we were imposing by coming in to order food and was just plain rude. They also apparently don’t serve tap water. The owner seemed more friendly to other people who walked in and ordered food, offering them sauce and asking them about their trip… so maybe he just didn’t like the look of my friends and me? We ordered 3 prawn and crab sandwiches, some coffee and cockles. The sandwiches were dry with minimal filling and sauce was a paid extra. The seafood did taste fresh but we had to add some salt, pepper and vinegar to bring out the flavours more. The atmosphere was weird. The lady behind the counter (maybe the other owner) started crying quietly next to the till where the man owner was standing — not sure what that was about. In hindsight, I should have gone up and asked if she was okay, but I already felt quite uncomfortable so didn’t. I really hope the man doesn’t use this review against her, I thought carefully about including this here but she could use this as evidence if she chooses to. They also said they didn’t have toilets we could use… and that we needed to go to the pub nearby and pay 20p to use theirs. As this shop is cash only, we did have some coins for the toilet, but it’s not good enough for a cafe to not have any sort of restroom.”
