Customer Review Summary

Sunday lunch is the main draw, with reviewers describing a roast that arrived hot and tasty, and gravy one diner could happily have bathed in. Close behind are the fish pie, sea bass and beef tartare with gnocchi, while desserts earn their own praise, namely the sticky toffee pudding, salted caramel fondant and apple crumble tart. Several credit new owners or managers with returning the pub to its former glory, and describe friendly, attentive staff and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Garden tables in the sun, a hired back garden with an outside bar and buffet, and a guitarist and singer on a busy Sunday also come up. Dogs were welcome in the bar, according to two reviewers. The one complaint is that starters arrived with the mains, which one diner found too much food at once. Another reviewer notes staff were thoughtful about the needs of a 92-year-old who eats less than he used to.

“⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Hermit of Redcoats This place had somehow fallen off our radar, until a little birdie told us there were new managers ,so we thought we’d give it another try. We went for Sunday lunch and, honestly, what a discovery! The menu was fabulous and the food was absolutely delicious. The website says they’re passionate about the produce, and that really shines through. Everything was beautifully cooked and full of flavour. I could quite happily have taken a bath in the gravy , it was that good! But what really stood out was the staff. They couldn’t have been nicer. Our Leeman is 92 and doesn’t eat quite as much as he used to, and they were incredibly accommodating, attentive and thoughtful about his needs. Nothing was too much trouble. It was just one of those lovely lunches where everything comes together ,delicious food, wonderful service and a really welcoming atmosphere. What a great place. X”

“We visited this pub for food when passing through on our way back from a local spa. The pub wasn't busy at all, loads of seating and we bagged a garden table in the warm evening sun. The food was great, big portions and really good value. Only bug bear was that the starters came out with the mains and it was too much food at once. Otherwise a great experience in a warm friendly rural pub. Clean throughout and dog friendly too.”

“Excellent family-run gastropub with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The food was delicious, well-presented, and made with quality ingredients. I had the tastiest fish pie and sticky toffee pudding, which was second to none. Highly recommend and will definitely be back.”

“We hired the back garden area for around 70–80 people and everything came together brilliantly. The outside bar was a great addition and really made the atmosphere even better. The buffet was amazing and all the staff were fantastic throughout the event. A massive thank you to the owners for making it such a special occasion. Highly recommend!”
