About Milecastle Inn
Milecastle Inn is a family-run pub in Haltwhistle, near Hadrian's Wall. The pub brews its own Milecastle beers, served alongside a wider beer selection, with a list of spirits, gins and wines behind the bar. The bar area is small and has a wood fire, while a separate restaurant area handles the meals. The kitchen cooks with locally sourced products and serves pies, and Sunday lunch includes a roast with lamb. Coeliac customers are catered for, with a gluten free Sunday lunch that comes with gluten free yorkshire pudding and gluten free puddings. Vegetarian and vegan dishes are also on offer. Tables can be booked by email.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch draws the most praise, from a lamb roast with generous portions to a gluten free version with a gluten free yorkshire pudding and gluten free puddings. Staff are described as knowledgeable about coeliac needs. Close behind are the pies, called huge and a proper pie rather than just a pastry top, enjoyed after a long walk along the wall. Reviewers also single out the pub's own Milecastle brews, a roaring wood fire and friendly staff, and several describe a warm, cosy, family-run feel. The recurring complaint is that dogs are not allowed inside, which one reviewer calls a shame while another counts it as a plus. One parent found the kids pizza and chips tiny and microwaved, and it was the only thing that dented an otherwise lovely visit. Dog owners drinking outside in the sunshine mention bowls and water provided for their pets.

“Just had a couple of pints outside in the sunshine as we had our dog with us. The inside of the pub looked nice and the girl serving was very friendly. Plenty of bowls and water available for your dog outside if you've been out walking 👍”

“We called in for food Tuesday night, had our 2 little girls with us. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the food was beautiful and the setting was so cosy. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back. May go as far as saying it is now my favourite local pub for food. Thank you! X”

“I thought this was a beautiful and charming pub in a stunning location near Hadrian’s Wall. We were greeted by friendly and helpful staff, before being seated and handed menus. Myself and my partner went for the pies and they did not disappoint! Huge portions, delicious and worth every penny. We ordered our son the kids pizza and chips, it’s this meal that dropped it from a 5 star to a 4 star review. For £10, I would have expected something a little larger and better quality than one of those tiny, microwave pizzas. Kids deserve good food too! But apart from that, our visit was lovely and we would still recommend to anyone in the local area!”

“We stayed at the campsite around the corner and came for a meal. Lovely food. Helpful staff. They catered for my wife who's a celiac. With quite a few gluten free choices for her. The pub inside isn't dog friendly, which is a shame. But the food and staff where very good. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area”

“Easily in my top 3 pubs of all time. A proper British pub with absolutely brilliant food in a stunning spot with a traditional, warm interior (horse brasses!) and fantastic staff and service. A proper pie (not just a pastry top) was just what was needed after a long walk along the wall. Don’t be put off by the 1 star reviews: they are written by disgruntled dog owner upset that their pooches aren’t allowed in. For me this is a massive positive, so many times pub trips have been ruined by badly trained dogs barking at each other across a pub while their, seemingly oblivious, owners do absolutely nothing about it.”

Highlights
“Cosy traditional pub serving well kept real ales and keg beers. Varied choice of spirits and gins and good selection of wines. Serves good food using locally sourced products. Caters for a variety of dietary requirements including vegetarian, vegan and gluten free. Sorry but we don’t allow dogs inside the pub as it is too small, however, they are more than welcome in the beer garden, weather permitting. Booking advisable. A takeaway service is available, including Sunday Lunch.”
