Quick info
About Mandira's Kitchen
Beside Silent Pool, Mandira's Kitchen is an Indian restaurant in Guildford that serves an Indian afternoon tea as an alternative to the standard version, drawing visitors who pair a meal with a distillery tour next door. The kitchen works across roughly 26 dishes, with the Premium Thali bringing several preparations together on one plate and Kathi Rolls alongside tiffin plates served with chicken curry. Black daal turns up both on its own and as part of the thali, and chai ice cream appears among the sweets. The site does more than table service, running a cookery school, catering and meal delivery, and a gift shop under the same name. A private dining room handles larger group lunches. Dogs are welcome. It opens daily, and tables fill up, with a queue forming at busier times.

Customer Review Summary
The Indian afternoon tea draws the most enthusiasm, described as delicious and a fabulous change from a standard afternoon tea, with several dishes reviewers had never tried before and staff happy to explain each one. Close behind is the cooking's flavour and originality: the Nanza, chicken biryani with beetroot raita, dal makhni, kathi rolls, beetroot chutney and chai ice cream all get named, one visitor calling the ice cream another level of yum and another finding the tiffin with chicken curry light but full of flavour. Several also single out the covered outdoor table beside Silent Pool, and one notes some dishes are pricey. Against this, one lunch party reports a serious lapse, a vegetarian diner served chicken in the Premium Thali after checking with the waitress, several dishes built on the same saag gravy, naan they found hard rather than tandoor baked, and, though the waiting staff apologised, an unhelpful response at the till when they asked for a discount on Diwali.

“Lovely Indian afternoon tea celebrating a friends milestone birthday. The food was really delicious and made such a fabulous change to a standard afternoon tea. The service was great, really friendly and warm and helped make the experience the lovely afternoon it was. Will definitely return”

“I recently visited Mandira’s Kitchen and had a really lovely experience. The staff was extremely friendly and cooperative, which made the visit even better. As an Indian, it’s been almost 8 months since I had proper chaat and authentic Indian street food, and this place truly brought back the taste of home. The Nanza was amazing, and we also loved the chicken biryani with beetroot raita and dal makhni. Everything tasted fresh and authentic. I’ve tried Indian food in Boston too, but this place genuinely won my heart for authentic Indian street food dishes.”

“We had a lovely meal here over the weekend. The food is flavourful and different. The ice cream is another level of yum. The staff are lovely and only too happy to help with any requests. It’s quite pricey for some dishes, but far fresher …”

“I organised a group of ‘ladies who lunch’ to experience Mandira’s Kitchen last Friday. Thirteen happy lunchers particularly enjoyed the setting and ambience of our (covered) outdoor table beside Silent Pool. There were a few of our friends …”
