Customer Review Summary

Reviewers overwhelmingly single out the chips as the main letdown, describing them as burnt, hard, pale or dry, and several say they tasted like frozen or oven chips rather than traditional chippy chips. One diner says the over-fried chips were sharp enough to cut gums, and another's party left their chips uneaten. The cod comes next, with repeated complaints that a large portion was tiny, compared to about three fish fingers, and that the fish looked grey with soggy batter. A few do say the fish itself was nice or surprisingly good, and one mentions a son enjoying the sausage, though another describes sausages that looked like they had sat in the fryer too long. Value is a steady complaint, with reviewers calling the prices a rip off for the portion size. Service draws criticism too: waits of around half an hour in a quiet shop, delivery orders served ahead of customers at the counter, a lost ticket, and an order inside the live lounge arriving with no cutlery. One reviewer says the curry sauce and peas were dry and thick.

“I don't want to be the bear of bad news however I wasn't that happy with our meals. The chips weren't the best and the chips were mostly black and hard. The only thing which came hot was the fish, and we ordered with plenty of time but they were late! Personally I used to think a chippy was one of the cheapest takeaways (not here) would say its the most expensive and you get less food for the price. Don't get me wrong when food is great it's worth the price as I do love a chippy but this time I wasn't happy.”

“Smallest piece of large cod I have ever seen. The equivalent to about 3 fish fingers. Frozen chips, fish grey not white. Two portions of this muck cost £35. Should be called Crooks, not Cooks. Avoid at all cost. Yuk!!!”

“Ridiculously tiny Cod for £10. Sausages looked like they had been in the fryer since last summer. Believe the other reviews!”

“Was at the door as it opened and ordered straight away but it still took 30 minutes for them to give me my food as they were prioritising delivery orders instead of customers right in from of them. The chips were not traditional chippy chips but the same frozen ones you get from the pub, they had been cooked for so long they were way too crispy! The fish was nice and my son enjoyed the sausage but I wouldn't order again.”
  • Martin Woods
“Ordered regular fish & chips one large portion of chips and two rolls cost just under £25, large portion over £5! Wouldnt have minded so much if they were tasty but it was diabolical, so much so my parents didnt eat their chips and i didnt eat mine. The batter on the fish was soggy the fish was gross, not fresh. The chips were not fresh potatoes tasted like oven chips cooked in fat. Do not waste your money over priced and disappointing, most got thrown away!”
