Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips come up most, with flaky fish and crisp, not soggy batter, and one diner calls the fish delicious. Close behind are a haggis starter, a steak pie with no tough bits served on a warm plate, tortellini in a generous portion, and a juicy BBQ burger with crunchy sweet potato fries. Onion rings are called the best ever, and a sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream is described as so tasty. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and several describe good value, including a weekday lunch menu. The main complaint comes from one diner who found the fish delicious but lacking value, disliked paying extra for a sauce that traditionally comes with the dish, and noted the steak listing gave no origin while other items did. That reviewer also had to remind staff about missing items even though it was not busy. Another found it a bit dark inside. One Christmas Day lunch included Santa making an appearance.

“Reserved a table online, bit not needed as very quiet. Small menu but the food was absolutely delicious. Service was fantastic. There was plenty of parking, but this would be limited if both the hotel and restaurant were fully booked. Dog friendly”

“In we went 13/3/26 at 5pm to use up a voucher that I received on December of last year - I had the feeling that we would be the only 2 diners in there & I was spot on, & a few other folks began to turn up a bit later than that. I opted for there stake pie 🥧 & it was delivered on a warm plate 🍽️ which appreciate & there were no tough bits of stake there & the vegetables were cooked spot on. My friend had there 🐠 & chips & her play was warm too & I tasted a lice of her fish g it was very nice & flakey & most importantly the batter on the 🐠 was crisp & not at all soggy & plenty of crisp french fries 🍟there too. She swapped her lovely mushy peas for my wee tub of peas - the tarter sause tasted brilliant & it's not to be missed. We could only eat about 1/2 of our non doey kinafa warm scone that came with a small tub of cream & jam 'cos we were both pretty full up & wanted to eat the lovely crisp pastry of our 🍓 tart & at least you taste the coffee ☕ So pay them a visit - it may be a wee bit dark in there for some but the place is lovely inside & despite all that the staff r really very nice & pleasant.”

“Really good food, friendly staff, dog friendly. Clean, warm atmosphere. We,also stayed in the hotel next door, room very big, huge bed, large bathroom, very quite considering it backs onto the motorway. Breakfast good choice, also vegetarian, again friendly staff.”

“We found Cook's on a visit to the Kelpies - what a find! We were in time for their weekday lunch time menu, extremely good value for excellent quality food. The haggis starter is to die for! Good size portions too. The waitress was friendly and efficient without being overbearing. Dogs are allowed too, our Red Setter was welcomed. I'd definitely come back here if ever in the area, it's well deserving of 5 stars.”

“Stopped by after our visit to The Kelpies; the place was still quiet when we arrived but started getting busier around lunchtime. I had the fish and chips, which were tasty, and enjoyed a bowl of olives as an appetizer. Overall, a pleasant experience and worth a try if you’re in the area.”
