Quick info
About The Tavern Restaurant
The Tavern Restaurant is a gastropub in Fort William, at 72 High St, a short walk from where tour buses park. The kitchen runs a pub-style menu with chicken and haggis with whisky sauce alongside fish and chips, and pasta dishes add a lighter option to the mains. Sticky toffee pudding with ice cream is among the desserts. The bar pours whisky and a range of other drinks, so the room works for a full meal or just a drink. Staying late is rewarded here, because the team hands out complimentary chicken wings at the end of the night.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the food, with carbonara penne and cajun pasta named repeatedly, alongside fish and chips, steak pie, and mac and cheese with a homemade cheese sauce. Desserts draw their own praise, including sticky toffee pudding with ice cream, cinnamon swirl cheesecake, and bread and butter pudding. One diner who skipped whisky was offered a taste of the whisky sauce on the chicken and haggis before ordering. Service is described as friendly and welcoming, and several visitors on bus tours say the quick lunch left time to get back. Two reviewers were given complimentary chicken wings at the end of the night. The main complaint is small: one table found their drinks arrived after the food and the whisky pour seemed a bit small. Another reviewer says a lost camera was found at the restaurant and the manager offered to mail it back abroad at his own expense.

“Staff were amazing and friendly. Food was fabulous. Had the mac and cheese and you could taste the homemade sauce was proper cheesy. Dessert of sticky toffee pudding and ice cream was delicious. The cinnamon swirl cheesecake was to die for. Will definitely be looking to come back to them next time I venture north”

“We visited Fort William as part of a tour. It is a small town located along the beautiful Loch Linnhe. The High Street is the town’s main street, filled with shops and restaurants. We had a quick lunch at The Tavern Restaurant and ordered Irn-Bru, the famous bright orange Scottish soft drink, along with fish and chips, and bread and butter pudding. The food was absolutely delicious. The staff were very friendly, and the service was excellent. During the busiest lunch hour, when the restaurant was full of travelers, I asked whether it might be possible to speed up our order since we only had about half an hour before returning to our tour bus. The manager, Mikey, kindly promised he would do his best, and he truly did. But the story did not end there. After lunch, we hurried back to our bus, and suddenly I realized that I had lost my camera. Since we had walked along the shore of Loch Linnhe, visited several shops, and eaten at the restaurant, I could not remember where I had left it. Our travel director contacted the shops and restaurants while we continued our journey. She also posted a message on the local community’s social media page in the hope that someone might find it. Soon afterward, Mikey responded that the camera had been found at the restaurant. When I heard the news, I felt incredibly happy and relieved. Mikey and I then stayed in contact, and he generously offered to mail the camera back to the United States at his own expense. Thanks to Mikey’s kindness and help, I was able to get my camera back. It was an unforgettable travel experience that I will always remember. Only a truly wonderful person could run such a wonderful restaurant!”
