About Ben Nevis Bar
Ben Nevis Bar is a pub in Fort William at 103 High St, in a building that dates to 1806, when it opened as an inn for cattle drovers. Inside, the layout combines restaurant and lounge areas, with a whisky bar set beside the fire. The menu uses haggis in several dishes, including haggis nachos, and also lists venison lasagna and a steak & ale pie. A terrace at the back looks over Loch Linnhe and serves drinks only. The pub is often busy, and a wait in the bar before being seated is common. Dogs are welcome, and a local discount is offered.

Customer Review Summary
Haggis turns up most often in praise, as a starter one diner highly recommends, in haggis nachos described as okay, and as roasted chicken on haggis mash. Close behind are the pies, including a chicken tarragon pie called award winning and a steak & ale pie, along with venison lasagna, Scotland chowder, cod goujons, a pork burger and a tender topside beef Sunday roast. Reviewers cite fresh ingredients, very good vegan options, and friendly, attentive staff in a cosy restaurant and lounge. The back terrace is praised for its loch views, though one reviewer notes it serves only drinks. The main complaint is crowding: long waits in the bar for a table, seating that stops early in the evening because people are still waiting, and a few reports of slow service. One lunch visitor found the fried shrimp and peas lacking flavour, and a sirloin was described as full of fat. One reviewer suggests booking ahead. One diner who could not finish a meal was handed a little goodie bag to take away.

“The restaurant is super busy, first day we waited around 45 min, and second around 25 min for the table. That is always a good sign. Amazing food with amazing service. Very good vegan options as well! I would definitely recommend.”

“What a fantastic evening at the Ben Nevis Bar in Fort William! The food was absolutely outstanding, the atmosphere was amazing, and the staff who served us on Saturday night were absolutely wonderful. A special mention to the little boy who was helping out — he was absolutely brilliant! I couldn’t finish my meal, and he kindly put together a little goodie bag for me to take away. Such a thoughtful touch and something I really appreciated. ❤️ As a local, it was also a lovely surprise to find out that you get a discount, which is an added bonus! I was genuinely surprised at just how good everything was, from the food to the service and the overall atmosphere. I would 100% recommend the Ben Nevis Bar to anyone visiting Fort William, and I’ll definitely be back! 🍽️❤️”

“If your looking for a traditional Scottish pub then this is it. 1st time visitors from Australia. Staff are awesome as well as the atmosphere. I suggest booking ahead as it can get very busy. Meals were delicious and very hot. You actually feel like a local dining here. I had the roasted chicken on Haggis mash 👌”

“It was 3pm on a Wednesday and this was the only place still open for lunch. Although the terrace was open, we had to wait to be seated inside cause they shutdown the service outside. Although the service was quick, we waited a little longer than expected for a waiter to come to us and take our orders. The food was served in a good quantity, but it wasn’t the best in terms of quality. The macaroni and onion rings were actually the best whereas the fried pieces of shrimp and peas were lacking flavour - also I thought they were going to serve grilled shrimp from the description on the menu. Didn’t fit the value for money expectations.”

“Wow! So glad we stumbled into this classy little pub with incredible food and exceptional cheery service. The food is inspired and ingredients are so fresh. All of our dishes were top notch. Award winning meat pie is aptly named had the chicken tarragon pie. The Scotland chowder or skink was sooo good. Venison lasagna…say no more. And if are looking for healthy greens there is a nourish bowl that will blow your mind. The staff were so attentive kind and friendly. Food came so fast even during lunch at high season.”
