About Highlands Tandoori
Highlands Tandoori is an Indian restaurant on Highlands Road in Fareham, with on-site parking reached via a one-way side road. The dining room runs close-table seating and is set up for larger groups, with booking the norm for Friday and Saturday nights. Service is straightforward: papadoms and dips such as mango chutney and mint sauce arrive at the table, plain chapattis come fresh from the oven, and the staff split bills across separate payments when asked. The menu sits within the standard Indian restaurant range, drawing on both Indian and Bangladeshi kitchen traditions. Walk-ins are taken when space allows, and the room serves as a straightforward neighbourhood dining room rather than a destination venue.

“First time visiting the Tandoori Highlands Restaurant. There were around 18 of us in the MJ group all looking forward to an evening of good food, good chat and good company. We had booked, I think it goes without saying larger groups need to book. It was a Tuesday evening so the restaurant could cope very well with our MJ party invading their lovely Tandoori. Parking outside was easy – make sure you enter the little road along the side of the shops from the South as it’s one way. And yes – you can practise your reverse parking lol. It was incredibly hot outside and the first thing on our agenda were jugs of water which were quickly provided. The restaurant was cooler than outside but no aircon that was obvious – but it was pretty good – as the sun entered the west window the staff dashed to close the blinds. I don’t think anyone had starters but all looking forward to our main course. A few had soft drinks and I think I saw a beer at one point. Mostly the water was our choice of beverage in the heat. We were brought platefuls of freshly cooked papadoms and dips – I always go for the mango chutney which is my fav. Already on the table was mint sauce which some of our group devoured. I had a main of Tandoori King Prawn Shashlik – which is King Prawns marinated in Yoghurt and spices with tomatoes, peppers and onion cooked in the Tandoori over. This was an amazing hit with my taste buds – a very large dish with plenty of Tandoori butterflied prawns and delicious peppers, onions and toms. I also had a plain chapatti which was gorgeous – none of that hideous plastic wrapped chapattis you get from the supermarket this was fresh out of the oven. A little side salad was also provided (just a little point - really don't need quite so much lettuce but a little more tomato and cucumber please) To be honest I didn’t really take much notice of what anyone else was eating as was too busy enjoying my dish. Somehow, and I don’t know how they did it, all our meals came out at the same time – eighteen dishes all hot and ready to go all at the same time – that is some accomplishment. The staff were friendly, attentive but not overbearing and made our evening exceedingly enjoyable. We didn’t even get any moans when we all paid separately for our orders – well done for that. The ambiance in the restaurant was good, nice décor and comfortable seating. This restaurant will definitely be on my list for the future and I have absolutely no hesitation in giving them a 5 star from me.”
