  “Called in on a whim between me finishing work and my wife starting for some dinner with our daughter. They say first impressions are everything. Based on that, we really shouldn't have bothered any further. Aside from the elegant exchange of the few tradies that congregated there after work (to be expected, by the way, after all is just a pub after all). Bar staff didn't acknowledge anybody beyond the person they were serving. We were confused as to whether the restaurant was actually open or not, seemingly someone was sat in there, but appeared to be on their break desperately avoiding making contact with any intending customer ( everyone is entitled to a break, but if you don't want to be asked a question, don't sit in the restaurant for your break). When they finally did acknowledge us, we were quickly directed back toward the bar area. Going back to the bar, waiting for our opportunity to be served, we asked if the restaurant was open or not, to be told yes and directed back in that direction. Willingly, we followed that advice, and once again came across the staff member sitting enjoying their break, but this time, there was also what we would assume was a waitress, diligently checking her teeth in the mirror for a short while, before, without acknowledging the presence of anyone in the room, exiting towards the kitchen. Bemused, my wife, daughter and I questioned amongst ourselves (not discreetly) whether we should just sit down.... Eventually following absolutely no interest from any member of staff, in our presence, we decided it was probably not somewhere we wanted to wait and find out if we would receive the service we were willing to pay for. On exit, we did notify a member of bar staff that nobody appeared interested in our custom in the restaurant, the reply to which, was to just go and find a seat in the bar area. Unfortunately we had been put off by this point. We are unable to review the food, because quite simply, we didn't get round to even sitting down, let alone ordering any food. This is quite sad, because the Cutter is one of our locals and unfortunately, we have been put off from returning.”

  “Was walking along the river and come across this gem, staff found us a table in the restaurant within minutes and we had a lovely view of the river. Naturally being a Sunday we ordered the roast and was not disappointed, beef was beautiful and home made Yorkshire Pud! Beer was very refreshing with the dinner. Also for the location I thought it was very reasonably priced. Thank you so much, when I am in Ely again I’ll be sure to visit here again. I am not normally a person to take pictures of food but was to nice not to!”

  “Service was prompt as was food though it was busy on a Friday night. Steak & Ale pie was absolutely amazing I will return to have it again & will recommend to others.”

  “We were already in Ely so went online and booked in to the Sid Merry Lounge. We received a friendly welcome and were seated right away at a Dog-Friendly Table. The Menu has a lovely Choice, something for every taste, we enjoyed the Calamari, a Sri Lankan Curry and a Steak & Ale Pie. Great to see Beavertown Neck Oil on Draught too. We'd have loved to try the Crumble & Custard for Dessert, but were already too full.”

  “Wonderful place - staff so helpful and relaxed, stunning spot definitely go visit and dip into their yummy menu. Great for big groups and long tables. Thanks for looking after us guys!”

  “We visited the pub on Saturday afternoon and wanted to order fish and chips. Despite the place being quite empty (there was only one other family), we had to wait a long time just to place our order, which was disappointing and reflected poor service. That said, the gluten-free fish was very tasty – we would definitely recommend it.”

  “Excellent location: just next to the river and also walking distance from railway station. We visited on Friday afternoon and so it was not so much crowded. Quick service! Very warm and friendly staff! Food quantity is sufficiently enough. I saw that the premises are dog friendly. :)”

  “On the river front and a short stroll from the cathedral. We headed in here as the weather was a bit blustery and we needed a drink and a bite to eat. The Cutter Inn did not disappoint. It was fairly quiet on arrival but it soon filled it and we were glad we got there early. Friendly staff and food delivered promptly.”

  “An old waterfront pub on The Great Ouse. Outside seating is at a premium, but provides a great view of the river. It is pricey due to it's location, and food ordering times are quite long. But, that said, a lovely place to sit and watch the world go by on a sunny afternoon.”

  “A very lovely Sunday lunch had at The Cutter Inn yesterday. All of our food choices were delicious, well cooked, plated well and portion sizes were excellent. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and the view of the river flowing past is a welcome sight. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and attentive. The atmosphere was lively but still chilled with everyone there all enjoying themselves and the delicious food. I hadn’t been here for a good while, but will definitely be returning now on a more regular basis. What a joy to have a fabulous Sunday Roast on your doorstep! The Cutter Inn is also a lovely pub, but on this occasion we only used the restaurant.”
