About Whighams Wine Cellars
Whighams Wine Cellars is an Edinburgh wine bar at 13 Hope St, off Rose Street, set in vaulted historic cellars a few steps below street level. Individual cellar nooks give guests their own spots to sit in. The wine list is long, with about 30 wines by the glass. Tasting menus offer four different wines, each with its backstory and tasting notes. Cocktails are served alongside the wine selection. The kitchen turns to Scottish and seafood dishes, with Cullen skink and fish and chips on the menu. A fish stew and seafood dinners complete the choice.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the wine list, from the long selection by the glass to the red wine tasting of four wines, which came with a little backstory and tasting notes. Close behind is the setting, vaulted cellars below street level that several call cozy, where one reviewer says the old cellars are easy to picture. Staff are described as friendly and welcoming, with fast service, and a solo visitor felt welcome. Food gets more mixed notes. The Cullen skink is called rich and flavorful, the fish and chips very good, and a seafood dinner very fresh, but one reviewer wanted a bigger portion of fish and chips and another found the fish stew a bit bland in its seasoning. Live Bossa Nova and a jazz band feature in a couple of evening visits. Two reviewers made repeat visits, one stopping in for drinks before dinner and again after dinner the next day.

“Such a cool place to have a few drinks in. Go downstairs and you feel as if you’ve entered into a different world. The unique cellar spots for people to sit in is fantastic! We made reservations for 6 and had a blast! Just an amazing place and atmosphere is beyond amazing. Service is excellent and the wine list is long! Don’t pass it by. It’s a must do!”

“Great place for wine lovers! Place itself is cozy cellars below street level. Service was welcoming. They have big selection of wines and differrent tasting menus where is four different wines. I took the red wine tasting. All the wines were good and interesting. Tasting menu was reasonably priced as well, I got four wines for 19£. Wines came with little backstory and tasting notes which was a nice detail.”

“Went on a Sunday evening to hear some Bossa Nova and have dinner. The fish stew was good - perfect portion size, with nice amount of fish - seasoning was a bit bland. The wine list is impressive, with about 30 choices by the glass. I enjoyed every one I had.”

“Great spot off Rose Street. We came here for lunch before visiting Johnnie Walker - that could make it quite busy in summer, although we had no wait. Nice British menu, all the classic your group might be looking for and SOLID wine menu for those who (like me) were doing whisky tasting out of obligation and need a nice glass of wine.”
