About Clarinda's Tearoom
Clarinda's Tearoom is a tea room in Edinburgh, at 69 Canongate, with chintz decor and just 8 tables. Seating is shared and first come, first served, so parties sit together at the same tables, and a short queue sometimes forms. The kitchen serves a Scottish breakfast that includes haggis, with a vegetarian breakfast alongside it. For something lighter, it offers a cream tea of tea with a scone, jam and cream, and home made cakes such as Victoria sponge. Different soups are made each day, along with quiche. Tea comes in large pots, with a selection to choose from.

Customer Review Summary
The recurring trade-off is space. The room is small, with shared seating, and several mention queues, though one reviewer found tables turned over quickly. Two critiques are specific: one found a cream tea scone extremely dry and crumbly at 3:45pm, though the tea was wonderful, and another arrived between breakfast and lunch when only toasties were served and wished the menu stretched further. One reviewer advises arriving shortly before opening, since seating is first come, first served.

“An absolute hidden gem and true little hole-in-the-wall that proves some of the best places are the ones you might otherwise walk right past. We came here for breakfast, and from the moment we arrived, it was clear this was a popular little spot. Seating is first come, first served. GENTLEMEN, TAKE MY ADVICE: 1) Get there about 10 minutes before opening. Otherwise, you may find yourself standing outside watching someone else enjoy the breakfast you should have been eating and you will not hear the last of it. 2) Sometimes being a man means making strategic compromises, and apparently mine was sitting down for a proper Scottish breakfast in a tiny tearoom. I survived, I was well fed, and I even enjoyed myself so I’d call that a successful mission. 3) The tearoom itself is cozy, charming, and full of character, with friendly service and a wonderful local feel. The food was delicious, and the entire experience felt authentically Scottish rather than overly polished or touristy which made it all the more enjoyable. Finally, I’ll admit. There were no pubs involved, no whisky required, and absolutely no complaints filed with the International Brotherhood of Men. Yet after experiencing Clarinda’s, I can confidently say… The. Sacrifice. Was. Worth. Clarinda’s Tearoom is exactly the kind of place that makes exploring Edinburgh special: Small, Welcoming, Authentic, and Packed with Character. A true hidden gem and gentlemen, don’t be afraid to take one for the Guys’ Team. You might actually enjoy it!”

“The best place to have Scottish tea, coffee and home made cakes like Victoria sponge cake and scones. The cafe is small in capacity and have waiting queues sometimes. A charming and cozy tearoom with a lovely vintage atmosphere.. The cakes are delicious and freshly made, and the tea selection is excellent. Highly recommended!”

“Aesthetically pleasing, quaint establishment. Very busy, shared seating. I ordered the Cream tea which consisted of a cup of tea, scone with jam and cream. I kid you not, the scone was so incredibly dry, thank goodness for the jam and cream that kept it together. Maybe it’s because I went at 3:45pm, perhaps the scones dried out. Extremely crumbly. Very difficult to eat. Tea was wonderful. 3 stars for atmosphere.”
