About Bibimbap Edinburgh

Bibimbap Edinburgh is a Korean restaurant at 96 Hanover St in Edinburgh, built around bibimbap served in hot stone pots alongside Korean fried chicken. The bibimbap comes in beef and tofu versions, so the namesake dish works for different orders at the same table. Dak galbi, a cheesy chicken dish, sits on the menu next to a cheese bullyak for those who want more from the kitchen than the bowls. The dining room is small with limited seating, which suits couples and small parties better than large groups. The restaurant is open daily.

Customer Review Summary

Generous portions come up in most reviews, alongside food diners call delicious and flavourful and prices they consider reasonable. Bibimbap is the namesake order, with beef and tofu versions described as filling, and tteokbokki is called flavourful, though one reviewer found the rice cakes too soft. Close behind are the dak galbi cheesy chicken, chicken katsu, katsu loaded fries and cheese bullyak. Korean fried chicken splits opinion, with one reviewer calling it the crunchiest and most flavourful they have had and another finding it a little dry. Staff are called friendly, and the small room cozy, though one reviewer notes limited seating. The harshest review describes a spicy tofu soup with broken tofu and little seafood, rice charged extra, and a beef rice bowl closer to Chinese stir-fry than Korean food, plus a salty sauce on the pork belly rice roll.

“The cheese bullyak was delicious, and the overall experience was great! Fried chicken was a little dry, but being dog-friendly is a huge plus!”

“We really enjoyed the dishes (Bibimbap, chicken katsu and Tteokbokki). They were full of flavour, even though the rice cakes in the Tteokbokki were a bit too soft – but never mind. The service, the choice of dishes and the atmosphere were all great. The price was very reasonable given the portion sizes. We enjoyed it and it’s now on our list of favourite Korean restaurants in Edinburgh.”

“Went for dinner date after work. Didn't expect the huge portion size. Very cost effective and buzzing place. Pretty fast service. Wonderful food. Tried the cheesy chicken dish called - Dak galbi and Beef Bibimbap. Very fresh and tasty. Can spice it up with the sauce if needed. Tried their katsu loaded fries. The sauce was great and tasty. Had some Korean tea, was lemony and refreshing on a cold night. We were lucky to get a table as soon as reached. But many people were waiting. Update - had an amazing experience again. Tried their tofu bibimbap, it was soo filling and tteokbokki, it was soo flavourful. Had gone around 6 and on a weekday, so got the table quick and avoided the rush hour. Good service. Overall great food, cozy ambience, value for money. Huge portion sizes. Must visit place, if you like spicy and flavourful food. Just a small recommendation, if they could add a few more chicken dishes.”

“Very nice and tasty Korean food. Helpful and friendly staff. The seating is quite limited though, so may not be able to accommodate large party.”

“Absolutely phenomenal. The portions are big, the prices are fair, and the food may be some of the best Korean food I’ve ever tasted. I think the before and after photos I’ve included will give a better review than I can write. 10/10!! :)”
