About Black Oak BBQ

Black Oak BBQ is an American-style smokehouse on High Street in Eastleigh, run as a walk-in restaurant where guests bring their own alcohol. The kitchen centres on smoked meats, with brisket and ribs standing out on the menu alongside sharing platters of mixed cuts. Sides such as mac and cheese round out the plates, and the menu lists an item called "Gods butter." The setup is aimed at groups who want to spread a table with meats and trade plates. The food is halal, opening the smokehouse to diners who follow that dietary practice. With its bring-your-own drinks policy and counter-style service, the room leans into a straightforward, hands-on meal centred on the meat.

Customer Review Summary

Brisket is what diners return to most, with reviewers praising the bark and smoke ring and saying it melts in the mouth. Ribs and the sharing meat platter come close behind, and a few mention a decent mac and cheese, though one found the butter on the salty side. Several describe friendly, welcoming staff, and one reviewer notes the food is all halal. A couple of reviewers mention that bringing your own beer is allowed, and one suggests dining in rather than taking away. Not every visit lands. One reviewer describes the restaurant as basic, with damaged chairs and tables, cheap cutlery and little atmosphere, and found the food underwhelming. Another reviewer, who still called the food delicious, reports food poisoning after a visit and says they saw a staff member eat from a customer's plate while plating it up. Elsewhere, reviewers describe an authentic Texan style of barbecue and say a birthday meal of platters and extras felt like good value.

“Amazing BBQ and the staff couldn't be nicer! Everything was so delicious, but the ribs were to die for and the brisket melted in your mouth. Highly recommended for all meat lovers.”

“Recently had a meal here after walking past and noticed it whilst shopping in Eastleigh, the food was absolutely delicious !! The meat was on point , didn't know you could bring your own alcohol else I would have , we booked and dined quite early so it was pretty quiet , but it was definitely over too quick , we ordered the sharing meat platter and it didn't disappoint”

“Brilliant attentive service and the food was very good. The brisket was fantastic! Decent mac and cheese. The gods butter was on the salty side but still tasty. Worth checking this place out for something different!”
  • Austen Sambrook
“Went here for my birthday last night and Ash & his team were very welcoming. The food was amazing - I'm a massive fan of American bbq and Black Oak is excellent. If you're looking for the kind of flavours that you've seen on 'Man vs Food' and Danny vs Food on YT - then this is the place to go. We ordered a couple of platters and some extras - was good value. We'll be back!”

“Food was not that great. The restaurant was basic, damaged chairs, tables, cheap cutlery with little to no atmosphere.”
