  “Used this place for the first time and wished we hadn't - WELL overcooked pork balls couldn't get our teeth into them so binned them. Chips average - chicken fried rice acceptable - in the area annually for a local event but will never use again. Couldn't be bothered to go back to complain - this might have been a one-off mistake but I doubt it.”

  “There was one review who said that this was the best Chinese in the area, so I decided to take them up on that. My first impressions were not great unfortunately, I was unable to see if they were Mandarin or Cantonese speakers as they have employed a young boy to do their customer service. He also told me that there were no cutlery available which is a UK first for Chinese takeaways I have ate at so far. However, due to the cash driven nature of the business, he advised me where their nearest cashpoint was which was helpful considering I am not from this area. I ordered BBQ Pork Fried Rice and Salt and Pepper Chicken. I can understand why some previous reviewers have expressed that this was the best in the area. The Salt and Pepper Chicken was well made, strong in taste and has a good balance of Chinese 5 spice however… this was let down by the excessive use of MSG. There was “too much” as I was left thirsty all night. Chefs do not need to have reliance on MSG to bring out the flavours of their dish. I unfortunately have to say they use too much compared to other establishments. Other than that, this is a good tasting dish that I will still recommend. The taste is what I expect from a good Chinese. The BBQ Pork Fried Rice was not bad. This is the minimum standard I expect from Chinese takeaways. The rice was not too dry, the pork had some flavour but not enough. It could use longer marination. Ultimately, this was let down by the lack of pork quantity which might have sorted their weak char siu (BBQ pork) flavour. The rice could have been a little less dry but I think I can let them off considering the rural-ness of the area. So far I have to say that China Chef is probably the best in this Bristol and Gloucestershire area. You might be able to find some better in or around Bristol but definitely in the Rural areas; I will say this one meets the Chinese food standard I expect when I order Chinese food. Overall good shop despite my criticism.”

  “Overall not impressed. Ordered the ribs and they we’re really dry and fatty Chicken and pork balls were uncooked (looked like prawns) Chips were alright and so was the rice. Spring rolls on the other hand I was disgusted looks mouldy.”
