About Reeds Cafe
Reeds Cafe sits inside Reeds Homestore on Nelson House in Downham Market, serving a menu of five dishes alongside cakes, teas, and soups and specials that change at regular intervals. Beef Stroganoff and homemade quiche cover lunch, jacket potatoes and cheese scones fill out the counter, and Tea Shortbread and Coconut and Raspberry cake sit alongside a Hot Chocolate. Dogs are welcome throughout, and a separate seating area gives them their own beds along with a jar of free treats on the table. The entrance is step-free for wheelchair users, and high chairs are available for families with young children. Free Wi-Fi is on hand for anyone settling in with a laptop or phone, and the cafe also does takeaway for those eating off site. It opens Monday to Saturday and closes on Sundays, running on a walk-in basis without table reservations.

Customer Review Summary
Cakes are the clear draw at Reeds Cafe, with reviewers repeatedly singling out the flapjacks, salted caramel cheesecake and cheese scones alongside "second to none" home baking. Close behind is the dog friendly seating area, where dogs get their own bed, a jar of biscuits and a water bowl at the table, a detail multiple reviewers mention returning for. Coffee draws mixed reactions, with several calling it just "ok" and unremarkable, and food quality is inconsistent for some: one reviewer describes jacket potatoes with prawns that tasted pre-made from a tin, and another was served strong breakfast tea instead of the Darjeeling ordered, plus a coffee cake they found dry and stale. One diner also notes a lingering smell of cooking fat in the dining area. Even so, most describe friendly staff and good value, with regulars saying they return on visits to Downham for tea, cake, or a full lunch with homemade quiche.

“This place has gone downhill. Ate here earlier in Summer and had Jackets potatoes with prawns but it wasnt as expected. The prawns tiny and it seemed like they were from a tin or jar of a pre made mixture. …”

“Popped into Reeds Cafe and we ordered a Black coffee and Darjeeling, a speciality tea which I drink at home all the time too, with a cheese scone and a slice of coffee cake. The coffee arrived nicely hot but the tea was NOT Darjeeling but strong breakfast tea...Ugh The scone was quite light and nice, however the coffee cake was very dry and had obviosly been there some time (stale)... So disappointed that I will not be rushing back.”

How this listing is sourced
- Where the data comes from
- Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
- How it stays current
- Every listing is re-checked on a recurring crawl, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
- How it is ranked
- Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
