About Smoking Lobster Cowes
Smoking Lobster Cowes is a seafood restaurant in Cowes at 127 High St, built around a Japanese-fusion menu. Lobster is a recurring dish, including a miso-grilled version, and maki rolls sit alongside it. Most of the menu is gluten free, so guests avoiding gluten have a wide choice across the seafood and Japanese-style dishes. For two diners, a seafood platter is on offer, and bread comes to the table with a chili dip and mayo. The restaurant is open daily.

Customer Review Summary
Lobster is the draw reviewers raise most, from the miso-grilled lobster called rich and buttery to an 850g lobster described as very tasty and a lobster paired with salad that one diner called the finest quality ever. Close behind are the seafood platter and the sashimi platter, with one reviewer saying the platter might be one of the best they have had. Reviewers also name the fried gilt-head bream, the Black Cod, the bread with chili dip, and desserts including pandan donuts, banana parfait and dark chocolate, plus a mandarin margarita. Portion size is the recurring caveat. One diner found the 850g lobster not filling and had found more for the money elsewhere, and another said the Black Cod arrived looking like a dessert cube. One reviewer was left alone once served and poured their own wine, though others describe friendly staff. A coeliac diner had katsu maki swapped for tempura maki and was reassured that the black bean sauce used gluten free soy sauce.

“Fantastic lunch here today - didn’t disappoint in the least (aside from the gods looking after our waistlines by not having the desert we selected to share ! ). Quite a different experience to the Ventnor one.”

“I had a fantastic meal here on the weekend. I was a walk in but they were kind enough to accommodate me. Firstly this place is stunning. The decor is phenomenal and I hope my photos do it justice. I had the beef tartare which came out more as a medium sliced steak. It was very tasty but not what I was expecting. That’s not a bad thing. Then I opted for the lobster. They didn’t have the smallest portion so I opted for the 850g. It was very very tasty but pound for pound I’ve had more for my money in places like Rick steins in sandbanks. It didn’t put me off but it wasn’t filling. I went for the banana parfait for pudding. Again it was high quality and it had many moments where I mmMmm’d from how tasty it was. I drank picpoul with my meal which was a great bottle and good value. Service was decent. I was thankful they took me at short notice. Once served I was pretty much left alone. No one checked if I was ok etc. I poured my own wine too. Might’ve been nice to have that done at this level of restaurant. But I strongly strongly recommend this restaurant. It would be great for a date or group of friends and family.”
