About Saffron Indian Restaurant | Fine Dining & Takeaway

Saffron Indian Restaurant is an Indian restaurant and takeaway at 51 Ravensdale in Clacton On Sea. The menu follows a traditional Indian line and adds Nepalese specialities, which gives the kitchen a second regional thread beside the familiar curries. Chicken Naga and Pathia sit among the curries, and naan bread is ordered alongside them. Waiters serve diners at the table, so the dining room runs as a full sit-down restaurant as well as a takeaway. A bar is part of the venue.

Customer Review Summary

Diners most often single out the chicken naga and the pathia, with several calling them the best they have had, full of flavour and cooked to perfection. Close behind, the tarka daal draws praise, along with a chilli tikka masala, pilau rice and naan ordered at one table, and a chicken madras described as juicy, spicy and fresh. Those who ate in describe friendly, attentive waiters who also left them their space, and one calls it the best Indian in the area. Takeaway and delivery tell a different story. One reviewer found the lamb pathia tasted of tinned tomatoes, the naga chicken barely spicy and the dahl watery, after an order that arrived very late. Another found a takeaway extremely bland compared with an earlier visit, with spices used sparingly, and a third called delivered food tasteless. One reviewer sums up the place as good without being great. Two of the disappointed takeaway customers say their meals ended up in the bin.

“Last night I ordered food from here as a takeaway. I must say I was disappointed with the flavouring, the food was extremely bland compared with a previous visit. The spices were used sparingly.”
  • Nic Stuart
“Had a lovely experience here! The service was brilliant, with friendly and attentive staff who made us feel welcome. The food was fantastic, particularly the Chicken Naga and Pathia, which were easily among the best I’ve ever had. Both dishes were full of flavour and cooked to perfection. We’ll definitely be returning and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good curry!”

“Excellent place to eat. Had a comfortable relaxed meal here with the Mrs on a summer trip. We both said the tarka daal was amazing. I had naga and she had pathia, both said it's the best we've ever had. Waiters couldn't do enough for us but let us have our space too. Spot on lads, see you next time cheers Jay”

“Ordered a takeaway Saturday night, over 2 hours for it to be delivered The food was then delivered now where do I start the lamb pathia tasted like a tin of chopped tomatoes, the naga chicken was about as spicy as a bottle of water Tarkq Dahl genuinely looked like vomit and was as watery as someone with the shits Never will I be recommending this place nor will I ever be ordering from here again Absolute shame, only managed to eat half of my plate and threw everything in the bin, feel absolutely robbed”
  • Braedon Frank
“The best quality chicken madras I've ever tried. Juicy, spicy and fresh. Highly recommended and will visit again!”
