Host Coffee is a small coffee shop at Unit 1 in Chesterfield, serving speciality coffee roasted by Cuppers Choice in Sheffield. The shop is licensed and runs a menu of coffee, brunch and bakes. The hostie is a house item with a festive flavour, and the menu also lists paninis and mushrooms on toast, done with pesto or roasted with cream cheese and parmesan. Customer Review Summary
Coffee draws the most praise. One regular calls the flat white the best around, and a Spanish visitor said it recalled home so closely that they bought a bag of ground beans. One reviewer found the coffee a bit burnt. Close behind is the food, led by the hostie, which reviewers call legendary and tasty, and the mushrooms on toast, described as pesto or roasted with cream cheese and parmesan. Others single out the sausage rolls, fresh pancakes with a sweet buttermilk flavour, the paninis, the iced mango matcha and the fresh orange juice. The main complaint concerns extras. One diner found the hash browns soggy, felt the add-ons made the bill creep up, and noticed that the order with added avocado came with far fewer mushrooms than the one without. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and good about food allergies. One reviewer who brought a dog for the first time was brought a fresh bowl of water and a treat.

“Really nice coffee shop, and the coffee served here was so nice, I almost thought I was back in Spain where I come from. I also had toasted bread, with a layer of cream cheese, topped with roasted mushrooms, small salad leaves (green and reddish colours) and parmesan cheese spread on top, and decorated with what seems to be brown sauce, it was delicious. I liked their coffee so much, that I ended up buying some ground coffe, 250 grams I believe it's a blend from Rwanda and Costa Rica, and medium roast for espresso machines. I highly recommend this cafe "Host Coffee". The staff were very attentive, helpful, and we did get a service with smiles, which makes your experience much better. One more thing before I go, you can take your dog in the restaurant, which is a plus if you are out and about with your pet.”

“Visited mid morning for food and what a lovely place it was. Quite busy for a Monday morning in early September as the schools are now back. Food was presented well and of good quality. Pricing was good value too, not quite what I was expecting in Clay Cross but would thoroughly recommend you visit this place. Decor was understated but I liked that. I would recommend the sausage rolls as they were excellent!”

“A lovely place to grab some food and drink. Staff are lovely and are great about food allergies. They also are supportive of the local run club who often head their after a run. I've been for business meetings, friend meet ups and with my dog because it's guaranteed to have a great atmosphere, kind staff and good quality food and drink. The iced mango matcha and fresh orange juice are delicious!”

“Genuinely my go to Cafe at this point. No where else locally can compete with either the one I visit the most in Chesterfield or this one here in Clay cross I visit with my partner. Lovely coffee and good food.”

“We absolutely love it here. I didn’t realise I was a coffee snob until I had a coffee at Host and realised how great coffee can be. It’s our usual go-to, and we plan our Sundays around a stop by Clay Cross Host. The staff are always fantastic and Shannon is especially super warm and friendly and makes us feel very welcome - a real asset to Host. One of the best gems in Derbyshire and undoubtedly the best Flat White!”
