Customer Review Summary
Praise centers on cod and chips cooked to order, with happy diners describing fresh, flaky cod, crisp batter and portions they called perfect. Halloumi fries and curry sauce round out one favorable order, and a few mention reasonable prices and friendly staff behind the counter, including one who gave a child a lollipop and a free drink. Opinion is sharply split, and several reviewers tie the divide to the change of ownership. Critics repeatedly report soggy batter that falls off the fish, along with rock hard chips, dry or overly firm fish, and greasy fish that fell apart. One says the fish smelt and tasted off while everything else was drowned in salt. Another found the fish placed on top of the chips, which made the soggy batter hard to separate. Some say it was better under the previous owners, and one has already switched to another chip shop. One reviewer describes a cold reception at the counter, and two ended up putting their fish in the bin.

“The batter was soggy. The fish was dry. The chips were awful. Large cod and chips x 2 for 31 pounds. We don’t recommend.”

“We visited this fish and chip shop on a Sunday evening around 6pm. Our first visit since the change of ownership. We ordered large fish, small and large chips, halloumi fries, curry sauce and drinks, and found the portion sizes to be absolutely perfect. Everything was cooked fresh to order; the cod was lovely and fresh with beautiful flaky flesh, and the batter was perfectly crisp. I’m quite fussy and usually hard to please when it comes to takeaways, so I’m not sure what some of the other reviews are referring to, we had a great experience! It’s also much better now that card payments are accepted. The gentleman serving us was welcoming, chatty. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning!”
