About The Copper Pot

On Pendre in Cardigan, The Copper Pot is a family-owned restaurant that has been running since 29 November 2019. The kitchen cooks a Cajun chicken burger and 6oz steaks served with peppercorn sauce. A special sharing platter is there for tables who want to split a meal. Cocktails sit alongside the food, and the music selection leans indie. A bar tender also serves in the garden space at the back. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

The main caveat comes from one detailed review: a main course that arrived long after the starter with no warning, a bland rack of ribs, and a sense that the food had changed since a new chef and recipes arrived. A separate diner says a steak took a while but accepts that as the price of cooking to order. One reviewer who found the place full advises making a reservation, and the garden bartender's good humour gets a mention too.

“Saved the best place to eat in Cardigan to last and it didn’t disappoint. Cracking spicey Margherita along with buffalo cauliflower and Korean wings. Kids both went for the 6oz steaks with peppercorn and they loved it. My wife had a lovely chicken Cajun burger, whilst the Birra Burger special I had was sensational. Even better our little dog was made to feel welcome and the service from the Copper Pot team was excellent. Would love to come back”

“I visited Copper recently and ordered everything at once around 12:15, as I had my young child with me and wanted to avoid multiple trips back to the kitchen to keep things moving quickly. The starter arrived promptly within 10-15 minutes and was lovely—definitely a highlight of the meal. However, the main course took an incredibly long time and didn’t arrive until 13:05, which was very disappointing. When I spoke to the gentleman serving us to express my concerns about the delay, he seemed polite but quickly walked away without really addressing the issue. It appeared to me that he was more attentive and friendlier to customers who were local and shared his skin color, which was disheartening. Having worked in hospitality for many years, I know that if the main course will take longer than 15 minutes after the starter, customers should be informed upfront. Unfortunately, this did not happen. The rack of ribs I ordered lacked any real flavor and was bland. When the server came back to check on the food and I told him it was just okay, he seemed surprised and responded, “Just okay?” I mentioned that I had dined here when the restaurant first opened and that it was nothing like when Doyle was the chef. He confirmed they had changed chefs and recipes, which explained the difference but didn’t make the experience any better. Ultimately, we left some food unfinished because it was, sadly, the worst meal I’ve had to date at this restaurant. Overall, my experience at Copper was disappointing, and I hope they take this feedback seriously to improve their service and food quality.”

“I asked the owner James if I could book a party in the garden and he was more than accommodating. The staff gave me permission to decorate the garden and store a birthday cake. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Shout out to the bar tender, Tom, in the garden who served us all night and was a great laugh. Food is excellent as always. I Would highly recommend.”
