About La Maison du Steak
La Maison du Steak is a steak house in Cambridge at 125 Hills Rd, with the meat displayed at the front of the restaurant. The steak list includes tomahawk, bavette and ribeye cuts, and a wagyu fillet sits alongside the regular fillet. Each steak comes with a choice of sauce, potatoes and salad. Beyond the grill, the menu follows a French-influenced line, mixing classic and modern European dishes, and breakfast is part of it. A private dining room is available for groups.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise the steak, with the tomahawk, fillet, bavette and ribeye each named and the cooking described as perfect, tender and full of flavour. One reviewer singles out the wagyu fillet as worth the extra cost over the regular fillet. Close behind are the sides and sauces: the chips and sweet potato fries, dauphinoise potatoes, bearnaise and a special chili sauce. French onion soup that tasted homemade and a chocolate mousse also get mentions, and several describe the staff as friendly. The main caveat is value and consistency. One couple found the meal overpriced for a bill of just over £130 for two, with a salty steak and a slightly overcooked fillet, and described the room as tired and dated. Another reviewer found the selection of wines small, and one noted a long wait. A few reviewers say the place fills up, with one suggesting booking in advance, and one diner who walked in without a table was accommodated on a birthday visit.

“Excellent lunch. The wagu fillet was worth the additional cost over the regular fillet. Good dauphinoise potatoes. We had southern French white, rosé, and red wine by the glass from Languedoc. Chocolate mousse was also satisfying. Recommended.”

“Not what we were expecting. Place is a little tired and dated could do with a revamp. Amazing seeing all the meat at the front. My meat was ok bit salty to my liking. Husband had the fillet and it was a tad over cooked. Spent just over £130 for 2 people. Starters and mains plus 2 drinks. Over priced we think. Service was brilliant. Quick at taking away plates ready for next course.”

“I loved my visit here! The staff were super friendly and the food was delicious. My steak was cooked to perfection (rare and melted in my mouth!) and the bearnaise sauce was super tasty and the perfect pairing. Would 100% recommend!”
