Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return to the full English breakfast, praised for good quality meat and sides, tasty and generously portioned, with breakfast rolls also described as freshly cooked. Close behind are the Peak Feast Homity Pie, called excellent and good value, and a gluten free version of the pie and cake. Mocha and other coffees, ice cream and a cake display on the counter also draw mentions, and the farm shop is described as well stocked with local produce. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and helpful, and the cafe is welcoming for dogs. The main complaints concern waiting and communication. One party queued for around 45 minutes, was seated outside because of dogs, was invited to order, then was turned away at the till when breakfasts were no longer being served, with a toddler in tow, and was spoken to rudely by management. Another notes slow food at the weekend and a coffee made with an uncleaned steam wand and unwiped portafilter. One diner found the knives blunt, while another happily had a hot drink in the warm shop.

“Stopped by Hartington Farm Shop & Cafe and had a lovely visit. It’s a nice little place to stop while exploring the area, with a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. We had some ice cream while we were there and it was really nice, with plenty of flavour and just what we needed during our visit. The farm shop is also enjoyable to look around, with a good selection of products available. Overall, a lovely place to stop for a treat and have a look around the shop. The ice cream was definitely a highlight, and I’d happily stop by again when visiting Hartington.”

“Really disappointing experience. We went out of our way to visit this café due to the excellent reviews and were prepared to wait, as we were initially told it could be upwards of an hour for a table. After around 45 minutes, we were finally at the front of the queue, only to be told there were no dog-friendly tables available. We completely understood this and were happy to sit outside instead. We were given menus and told to go inside to order. After waiting at the till, we were then told that they could no longer accommodate any more breakfasts due to a large table of customers. What was particularly frustrating was being invited to order food, only to then be told by a member of management, in a very rude manner, that we could no longer be accommodated. We had a toddler with us, which made the whole experience even more frustrating. The biggest issue was the complete lack of communication. If we had been told from the beginning that breakfast could no longer be served, we would have simply gone elsewhere. Instead, we wasted a significant amount of time waiting, being seated, given menus and then queuing to order, only to be turned away. Unfortunately, based on this experience, we won’t be returning.”

“What can I say... This is a gem of a place, my partner and I ordered the big breakfasts and drinks. The service was excellent and so was the food, it was so nicely presented using quality ingredients. The atmosphere was good and all the staff were working hard serving, tidying up the plates and cleaning tables. We will definitely be back. The only negative I would say and this is me being very picky, is that the cutlery knives could do with an upgrade, as they're blunt and have no cutting left in them.”

“Lovely cafe popular with weekend cyclists and tourists. Food was decent, took a while to be served but expected due to the weekend crowd. Coffee was... Yeah. Steamwand wasn't cleaned immediately after used, portafilter wasn't wiped, so old moist grounds were still in the basket, and tamping was almost non-existent. I decided against ordering a coffee so I didn't account for it in the score.”

“Beautiful not so little cafe and farm shop The atmosphere is cosy and just as you’d expect from a local farm cafe & shop Had the full breakfast, very nice, good quality meat and sides and very tasty. One of the best cafes I’ve been to in a long time, will 100% be going out of my way to come here again.”
