Quick info
About Oriental Taste
Oriental Taste is a Chinese takeaway at 5 Birchwood Rd in Bristol that doubles as a fish and chip shop, so a Chinese menu and the fish and chip range come from the same kitchen. Chips include salt and pepper chips and chilli chips, and the chicken balls come with curry sauce in a small pot. Gravy with peas and onions is on offer to go with fish. Payment is cash only and cards are not accepted, so customers need to bring cash. The shop is open every day of the week except Tuesdays. Plants stand both inside and outside the shop.

Customer Review Summary
Chips draw the most mentions here, led by the salt and pepper chips one reviewer calls addictive, with the chilli chips described as quite nice and another reviewer praising the chips in general. Close behind are the Chinese dishes. Hong Kong style chicken and chilli beef were called good, while the barbecue sauce special fried rice and the tofu and mixed vegetables soup were called fab. The fish and chips also earn praise, including a gravy with peas and onions that one reviewer says has to be tried with the fish. Reviewers describe the value as very reasonable and the people as friendly and kind. The complaints are small but specific. One diner received a half filled small pot of curry sauce alongside five chicken balls, and another found the Kung Po only okay. On New Year's Eve the crispy noodles were unavailable because there was no time to make them. One reviewer still plans to reorder the mushroom chow mein, which they called really delicious.

“I ordered here today for an evening takeout. I ordered the mushroom chow mein and that was really delicious, I would happily order that again. I also had the Kung Po which was okay. The prawn crackers were also fine. This place doesn’t accept card as payments so I’ll give it four stars as the food was really tasty and it was good value.”

“11 reviews put us off from going here, very glad we bit the bullet, quite nice food. Friendly customer service. Cash only. Chili chips were just chips with chilli, not with the extra greens, but were still quire nice. Hong Kong style chicken and chilli beef were good.”

“Food quality good, but the meanest curry sauce portion I've had at a Chinese with 5 chicken balls. Why not just fill the small pot up, instead of a half filled small pot. It's just not enough sauce. Silly, as doesn't cost much. Make your customers happy, at hardly any extra cost.”
