About Burger Theory

Burger Theory is a hamburger restaurant in Bristol, serving creative burgers alongside craft beers, shakes and cocktails. The Blue Cow burger puts a dry-aged beef patty together with Stilton, candied chillies, chipotle mayo, house ketchup and pink pickled onions in a potato bun. Chicken burgers share the menu, and a gluten-free burger and bun option is available. Sides include Buffalo Fries. Guests choose any free table, and a server takes food and drink orders there.

Customer Review Summary

Diners most often praise the burgers themselves, with the blue cheese Blue Cow and the beef patties described as juicy, full of flavour and cooked perfectly. Close behind are the Sheriff Burger with Buffalo Fries, the OG Burger, crispy chicken burgers and Halloumi Fries with Satay Sauce. One coeliac diner called the gluten-free all the cheeses burger one of the best buns she had. Several describe the staff as friendly and welcoming, though one reviewer found service really slow at lunchtime when the place was not busy. The sharpest complaint concerns a sign outside advertising free fries with any burger on weekday afternoons. One table ordered on that basis, then learned at the bill that Bank Holidays were excluded and the chips would be charged. They felt exclusions should be made clear before people order. One reviewer suggests booking a table in advance because it gets busy. The homemade ketchup comes up repeatedly, with one diner calling it weirdly excellent.

“After 7 Years Since the last time we came it is still absolutely phenomenal!! We used to live locally and would always attend burger theory for special occasions, after moving up North we missed it so what better way to spend a trip into Bristol than attending Burger Theory... Everything is cooked to perfection and the presentation is always brilliant! The flavours and combinations of food work, we had the OG Burger, KFC and Halloumi Fries with Satay Sauce would definitely recommend and will be back again next time we are down!”

“I'm 36, and my wife is 33. We've both eaten a lot of burgers in our lives, but we both agreed that these were some of the best we've ever had. I had the blue cheese burger, and my wife had a gluten-free 'all the cheeses' burger. They were incredible (my wife is coeliac and said it was one of the best buns she had - and she was mega surprised when it came out and hers was the bigger one!) A good portion of fries too, and the homemade ketchup was delicious. We will definitely be back.”

“Burgers were decent and the ketchup was weirdly excellent 😂 but the fries situation left a bad impression. There’s a big sign outside advertising free fries with any burger Monday–Friday 12–4, so naturally we ordered assuming that applied. Only when paying the bill were we told Bank Holidays don’t count and we’d be charged extra for the chips. Honestly, that just feels wrong. If there are exclusions, they should be made properly clear before people order — not after they’ve eaten. Service was also really slow despite us being there around 1pm when it wasn’t particularly busy.”
