  “Whilst we had high expectations of green yard due to the Google reviews this rapidly turned into a disappointing experience ..sausages were an insipid colour although cooked I suspect microwed. Veggie sausages were soggy and all in all a disappointing experience...apart from the fact a dogs head, from the next table, was in my breakfast...it's never the dog, always the owners, there was no attempt to take the dog away. Another huge dog arrived on the same table which smelt so badly we couldn't then feel like we wanted to stay ..after asking them politely if they could move to different table they took real offense calling us dog haters when we have a dog and love dogs!! This then dominated the time we were there with them complaining to anyone that would listen .causing such a horrible atmosphere we had to leave ..all in all this was a really uncomfortable experience..this was an expensive waste of time one that we could ill afford during such hard times.”

  “We’ve visited this cafe 3 times over the past 3 years. We were impressed after visit 1, we were equally impressed after visit 2 and I’m pleased to say standards have been maintained. Smiling cheerful staff, a great boss, excellent food available and very nice coffee, all at very reasonable prices. The atmosphere within is also great. They deserve every success based on the efforts of all concerned.”

  “Wonderful brunch in this delightful cafe with a beautiful courtyard. The most friendly and chatty staff but not intrusive 😀 sour dough avocado and poached egg with the most beautiful orange yolk 😋 delicious courgette and avocado cake for after my swim, looking forward to returning 😀 loved the homemade biscuit with my coffee too 💕”

  “Cosy and friendly cafe just off the High Street, best park on the main road if you're driving as there's no parking outside that we saw. We had a lovely full English breakfast here, plentiful, fresh and good quality. Cooked to order with not too much waiting, the signs on the walls keep you entertained while you wait anyway. Seems popular with the locals which is always a good sign.”

  “The green yard is a hidden gem. The absolute best breakfast in and around bridport iv ever had, sausages are the best, and locally sourced, including brilliant bacon, and eggs cooked to the absolute best they should be. Its a fabulous place, everyone should go there. Well done to the owner and staff, you are amazing, will definately be back. Ellison x”

  “Found this lovely, friendly cafe on a wet and windy day - went for the all-day full English breakfast which was a bonus as lots of cafes stop serving breakfast at 11.30am - not the Green Yard. Lots of choice of food and drinks, very reasonably priced and generous freshly cooked portions sizes. What we loved the most about our visit are the staff (presumedly family owned business). They were incredibly welcoming even though (or despite!) the cafe being fully booked. They offered us (a party of three people who had not booked in advance) a small table and promised us a bigger table as soon as one next became available - which it did, very shortly after. The owners are very friendly, welcoming, funny and it was a genuine pleasure to eat here. They create a warm and relaxed environment effortlessly. Shout out to the home-baked shortbread cookies that accompany each coffee! All the little details which regular customers clearly love. They have definitely bowled us over and will be our new favourite local cafe now!”

  “A proper breakfast destination buried in one of Dorset’s best-kept corners. You stumble upon The Green Yard not because it’s shouting for attention, but because you’re looking for genuine hospitality. Tucked into a Georgian stone terrace on a quiet Bridport street, it’s exactly the kind of place that rewards curiosity. I ordered the English Breakfast and it arrived exactly as it should: sausage, proper back bacon, a fried egg with a vibrant yolk, I declined the black pudding, grilled tomato, mushrooms, baked beans, hash brown and toast. No faffing about. The sausage held its own, quality pork, not filler. The bacon was crispy. The egg cooked to order, not overworked. The beans came in a proper brown sauce, not some syrupy mess. This is not fancy food. It’s the kind of breakfast that tastes like someone actually cares about the cooking. Mark, the owner, embodies what makes this place work. He was present, engaged, genuinely interested in conversation without hovering. That’s rare. Too many cafés treat hospitality as a box to tick. Mark treats it as part of the offer. The room itself is clean, comfortable, bright. Big windows overlook the street. The tables are solid. You can linger over a pot of tea without feeling rushed. The kind of space that invites you to settle in, whether you’re there for twenty minutes or an hour. The pricing is honest. A Full English at £14 and what I had at £11 is fair for this standard and portion size. You’re not subsidising Instagram aesthetics or paying for a concept. Worth the trip.   “Excellent soup and cheese scone! Had to get another scone they’re so good 😊 I’ve popped back to add that the espresso is one of the best I’ve had in the UK and the chocolate tiffin goes with it perfectly!!”

  “Second day of holiday, gusting winds, driving rain. We decided to go to Bridport Wednesday market despite the elements. We walked into a cafe and got told abruptly "We're not open" then ignored. With a two fingered gesture to that establishment we walked from one end of town to the other not seeing anywhere inviting. We were about to turn around and go home but decided to walk another 20 yards and there it was. The Green Yard. An absolute hidden gem. It is a cosy little cafe with well spaced seating. Upon entering, the (I assume) owner was inviting and chatty and made you feel welcome straight away. The breakfast we ordered was delicious, well cooked and served in a timely manner. There was a steady flow of regular customers and you could tell the staff there were well liked. Also while we were there, a large party of 10 arrived and they were processed with just as much enthusiasm as we were. On closing in my opinion a very telling factor of a good eatery is the condition of their restrooms and these were basic but clean. We would recommend The Green Yard to any visitors to Bridport but get there before 2pm as they shut at 3pm. P.S. they do baked goods too with some interesting looking nibbles and they are licensed.”
