About Ridleys on the River

Ridleys on the River is a bar and pub on Bridge Street in Bridgnorth, set next to the River Severn with a Sri Lankan buffet option that can be arranged with the owner. The kitchen leans towards fast food, running items like Ceylon black pork curry, Piri Piri chicken skewers and crispy chicken tenders alongside the buffet. The format works as both a daytime pub and a bar in the evening, and the space includes a virtual darts setup for groups looking for something to do alongside a meal. Dogs are welcome throughout, fitting the locals' pub feel of the room. Booking posture and hours are handled at the front of the house, with the team taking reservations for the Sri Lankan buffet and walk-ins the rest of the time.

Customer Review Summary

Diners consistently single out the riverside setting as the chief draw, with several describing it as a great spot by the River Severn and one noting the lovely view from the venue. Close behind, reviewers return for the food, praising dishes by name: a Sunday visitor raves about the Ceylon black pork curry, calls the Piri Piri chicken skewers gorgeous, and praises the crispy chicken tenders as tender and delicately spiced, while one diner found the cheese and onion lunch cob to be of dreadful quality, describing it as a few thin slices of rubbery cheese on bread with chutney. Staff warmth is another recurring theme, with several reviewers noting a welcoming host who sat and chatted and a kind-hearted owner who stayed open past closing to cook a meal. A few also point out the darts setup hidden in the back as a fun touch. One group visiting on a Saturday afternoon felt a little out of place among the vocal locals and stopped after one drink.

“Avoid the lunch cobs - absolutely awful quality. Cheese and onion cob is afew very thin slices of the most tasteless rubbery cheese and a dollop of a spicy chutney. Basically it’s the contents of a cheese burger with the patty taken out . They make it as cheaply as possible and sell for £4.50. Of course if you want a pint and a packet of crisps it’s a bargain at £8.80 !! Dreadful”

“We called in on a Sunday just as they were closing but bless their souls they stayed open and cooked food for us as well as having a couple of drinks. The Ceylon black pork curry was amazing! The Piri Piri chicken skewers were gorgeous and the crispy chicken tenders so tender and delicate spicing! We will be back next year and have already arranged with the owner to have a Sri Lankan buffet!! We can’t wait, thank you!”

“Bit of a locals place. Not made to feel unwelcome, but felt a little out of place..lots of vocal locals, and not much space made it a one drink stop”
  • David Hodgetts

  • Lance Quirico
“We dropped in for a drink on Saturday afternoon. The host sat and chatted to us for a few minutes and made us very welcome, sharing her background and ours.”
