Quick info
About Nando's Blackburn
Nando's Blackburn is an Afro-Portuguese restaurant in The Peel Centre in Blackburn, open daily. The kitchen flame-grills peri-peri chicken, and the menu includes chicken wings, a chicken pitta and half chicken with sides. Halal options are available. Sauces come in different heat levels and are self-serve, so each diner chooses their own heat. Orders go in through the Nando's app, a QR code at the table, or at the counter, and the app takes payment upfront. Refillable drinks come from a self-serve drinks machine. A sink for hand washing sits in the dining area, and seating includes both booths and tables.

Customer Review Summary
Staff service is the most common praise at this branch, with several reviewers calling the team friendly and welcoming, and one parent describing being seated quickly at a table with room for a pram and high chair, and staff offering to make up a baby bottle when the warmer failed. Food praise is thinner: one diner singles out the chicken wings and cauliflower, and another says the food is as good as ever. The complaints are heavier and more specific. Several reviewers say prices have climbed, citing a refillable drink and a small portion of three wings, and one says the Garlic Churrasco Burger lacked flavour. Others report kitchen and ordering problems: running out of chicken on recent visits, burnt chicken, over fried chips, a lemon and herb half chicken delivered when extra hot was ordered, and a Fino Pita below the usual standard. One reviewer reports that a chicken pitta was raw in the middle, that a manager was dismissive, and that illness followed. Another reports a server skipping a waiting customer, and one dislikes paying upfront through the table QR code. One diner leaving over an unsanitary scene still found the food piping hot.

“Really disappointed with my order today. Ordered through via the Nando’s app. Food was abysmal in all honesty. The half chicken was lemon and herb even though I asked for extra hot. The 4 boneless thighs were not the best as we asked for hot flavour and received mild. We dine in all the time, so we know how we like our chicken and when it’s not right. Well just stick to dining in, instead of ordering to home. Money wasted this time round. We’re also aware it does cost more on deliveries, but my gosh we’re the prices stupidly high. The amount spent could’ve got us the same meal either way two bottomless drinks and a starter. :(”

“My family and I have been visiting this Nando's for a decade. Over those ten years, we’ve welcomed three children and made it a regular spot for our family meals. Historically, the food was solid, but over the last few years, the quality has become increasingly hit-and-miss. We kept returning purely out of loyalty, but our most recent visit was definitively the final nail in the coffin. During this visit, my wife ordered a chicken pitta. After taking a bite of my meal and our 2-year-old’s food, she tasted her own and immediately realized something was completely off. The chicken inside her pitta was entirely undercooked and still raw in the middle. I called over our server who then informed his manager. We could hear the manager becoming agitated before she even reached our table. Instead of offering a simple apology or remaking the food, she became defensive. She proceeded to lecture us on their cooking process, using the excuse that "all chicken pittas are cooked the same." By her logic, if they were all cooked the same way as my wife's, every single pitta served that day would have been raw. It was incredibly dismissive and demonstrated a shocking lack of accountability. We requested our money back and left immediately. Unsurprisingly, my wife has now been suffering from severe food poisoning for the past 48 hours. It is completely unacceptable to serve raw chicken, and even worse to handle a customer's genuine food safety concern with such arrogance. That was, without question, the last time we will ever step foot in Nando's Blackburn.”

“Genuinely one of the worst managed Nandos in the country. I used to go to Nandos maybe 4 times a month. Now about 1-2 times a month. There is never a time you go to this Nandos and everything just works. They have either run out of straws, or their drinks machine isn’t working, or there is no chicken. Or the chicken is burnt because the grillers maybe forgot the f chicken it already steam cooked before it ever hits the grill. Needs to be on the grill only a couple of mins for grill lines. Sauce added and grilled a min then taken off. Sometimes utensils are missing or no tissues entirely. Have their management team not been trained in procurement and quality assessment? It’s frankly embarrassing to get chicken and chips this wrong. Consistently. The last straw for me were these sad over fried chips. They had run out of chicken the last 3 times I visited for instance, at a reasonable time too not late in the evening. The thing is there was a time where the value proposition was ok. Now with a refillable drink coming in at £4.25 for something I know costs about £0.20 per portion is beyond criminal. I encourage you to be more demanding with the staff. Send more food back unless it’s perfect and worthy of the price they are charging for basic chicken and chips. In 2016 an average half chicken with 2 sides and a drink was about £12.95, today it’s coming in at £19.45 a 50% increase. Do you feel the service or food has increased in quality by even 10% let alone 50%? It’s only got worse. The chicken is noticeably smaller the food and service is worse. I’d rather avoid going now or visit the Preston branch that has better availability and service if I do go. Clean up your act. It’s unacceptable for the price you’re charging and I encourage all of you to up your pressure on the brand and staff to be better for the price it’s at now. You want to charge more? Great. We expect more in return. It’s only fair.”

“Just had a great experience at Nando’s yesterday and shoutout to friendly staff Lucas. Food was great as always, but the service from team is welcoming and made it much more pleasant.”

“Myself, partner and baby visited this restaurant today and it was busy very busy however we were greeted at the door and quickly seated, not only was it quick but also thoughtful they put us on a table where there was room for the pram and a high chair if we wanted it. They also went out of their way to help us when I couldn’t get the bottle warmer to work they offered to make the bottle up for us (they’re not allowed to give out boiling water). And also came to us to apologise after a rather chaotic family came in and were sat near us. The food was nice enough as Nando’s always is. But the staff were honestly amazing they alone are the reason I’d go back to this restaurant in particular.”
