About Clayton Street Chippy (Clacky D's)
Clayton Street Chippy, also trading as Clacky D's, is a fish and chips takeaway in Blackburn at 7-9 Clayton St. A sit-in cafe runs alongside the chippy counter, so there is a dining area for eating on site. The menu centres on fish, chips and mushy peas, with a monster haddock for bigger appetites. The cafe also serves coffee and tea. At busy times a queue can reach out of the door.

Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips is the draw, with reviewers praising crispy batter, very good chips and a generous portion of fish, chips and peas. One diner calls the Monster haddock a Monster. Long-time customers say the standard has held, and one calls it the tastiest chippy in Lancashire. Staff are described as friendly, polite and chatty, with some proper Northern humour. The sit-in cafe is repeatedly busy, and queues out of the door are read as a good sign. A few reviewers are sharply critical, though. They describe fish that was dry, rubbery or burnt, batter that was brittle or had come away from the fish, and a suspicion that it was cheap white fish rather than cod or haddock. Several of these call the bill poor value, while another finds prices reasonable in today's context, and one calls the place a little pricey. Those unhappy say they will not return, while happy diners say they will. One complaint stands out for its detail: the mushy peas were barely mushy, closer to ordinary peas with a bit of slop around them.

“Quality good, good service despite queues out of the door. Good choice on the menu and reasonable prices in today's context”

“Can’t say too much about the staff, service was pleasant enough, but my god, the food for the price is an absolute disgrace. Ordered two lots of fish, chips and peas, one with curry sauce and two cans of pop. It came to a ridiculous £30.70…. The fish was some cheap crap that mushed in your mouth, wasn’t nice flakes of fish. The chips were probably the best element, but wasn’t many of them. The mushy peas weren’t even mushy they were pretty much normal peas with a bit of slop around them and then the two cans of pop. I struggle to believe there’s any quality checks going on at the chippy if that’s the crap they’re serving up, this chippy used to be one of the best in Lancashire before it was Clacky Ds. Won’t be going back, but I hope you turn things around for the good people of Harwood that are paying silly prices for bad fish and chips!”

“Very nice Fish, chips & mushy peas purchased..this place has really changed since I last went in..it must be at least 20 years ago. I remember the older people cooking and the son who was a little eccentric but professional serving the customers in the Cafe side of the shop...a little bit pricey..”

“Used this chippy for over 45yrs. The current owners have maintained the standard and quality known & expected. Tastiest chippy in Lancashire. Only down side, is the lack of a customer toilet, but it has always been like that.”
