About The Three Tuns Inn

The Three Tuns Inn is a 13th century pub and bar on Salop St in Bishops Castle, set next door to the Three Tuns brewery. That puts a Three Tuns beer on tap, alongside a standard lager lineup. The kitchen serves a steak and ale pie, and Sunday lunch features roast lamb. Vegetarian choices include a halloumi burger, so mixed groups can eat from the same menu. The Shire Pub Company operates the inn, which was refurbished in October 2026. Dogs are welcome, so walkers can bring their companions inside.

Customer Review Summary

Diners most often return for the food, with the pies and the Sunday roast named repeatedly: the steak and ale pie is praised for flavoursome meat and good pastry, and the lamb roast is called the most tender one reviewers have had. Close behind are fish and chips, the Welsh lamb steaks, and vegetarian dishes such as the sweet potato burger, halloumi burger and veg lasagne. Several ate here twice during a stay, and service is described as friendly, efficient even when busy, and helpful when a waitress checked with the kitchen about a baby's food allergies. The recurring complaint is beer. Two reviewers were disappointed that only one beer was on tap despite the brewery next door, and another notes most beers are standard affairs. One visitor who drove nearly an hour found three of the four lagers off, leaving only Carling. Even so, the beer is also called very good and reasonably priced, and one meal for a group of ten went down well, with a diner saying a dessert wasn't needed after the decent portions.

“Great meal out for 10 on Saturday lunchtime. All meals were great with friendly service. Had a baby with food allergies with us and waitress was great t checking with kitchen what she could have off our plates. We will be back”

“Disappointing as this was recommended in the cottage visitors book we were staying. Drove nearly an hour for food and a drink only to find out 3 of the 4 lagers they had were off....only Carling on.....Well.....don't need to say anything else really. If I wanted a pint of water, I'll get it out the tap at the cottage. Poor show. A pub without lager!!!! Disgusting..... 🤨🤨👎👎”

“Food was delicious and the standard is very high for what you are paying, and service was great too. Highly recommend”

“Lovely place to have a meal on a Friday night. Great service, very nice beers from their own brewery and very tasty food. Decent sized portions too! Didn’t need a dessert!”
  • Graham Knott
“We had the lamb Sunday roast, the most tender lamb we've ever had. Portion size was perfect. Service excellent, staff well dressed, polite and attentive. So good we went back a couple of days later, my Wife has fish and chips, which she really enjoyed and I had the Steak and Ale pie. The pie was full of very flavoursome meat and the pastry was very good. Unfortunately, we are only here on holiday, otherwise we would be eating here most days. Really dog friendly and would highly recommend. Perfect 👍👍”
