About Thai Cottage
Thai Cottage is a Thai restaurant at 149 High St in Berkhamsted, owned by a Thai-British couple. The wood interior has an antique-style setting, with fittings in teak reclaimed from old Thai houses, so the room carries materials from Thailand itself. The kitchen cooks red or green curry with coconut milk, and tom yum soup sits on the menu alongside it. Pandan pancakes are there for dessert. At lunchtime, the Lunch Express menu offers two courses for diners who want a shorter meal.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often come back to the curries, with the red and green curry singled out for their intensity and the way coconut milk balances the richness, and the panang and masaman also earning praise. Close behind are the tom yum soup, described as authentic and full of herbs, and the pandan pancakes. Satay chicken and kao pad also get a mention, along with flat rice noodles with chicken, and several describe the portions as solid and the prices as reasonable. The traditional wood interior and warm, friendly staff come up repeatedly, and service is called prompt. One reviewer suggests booking in advance to guarantee a table. A few reservations surface: one diner found the flavours muted and wished for more heat, citrus and sweetness, and said the crispy beef turned hard and dry. Another finds the room a bit noisy when full. One reviewer notes a table was ready slightly earlier than booked.

“The food is the best and most authentic thai food you can get in the region, and with reasonable price. If you want even cheaper, do come in during lunch time for the lunch express, its a two course meal for less than £16 (including service)!! I had satay chicken for starters and kao pad superot for main, and the portion is really solid (with good protein for fellow gym goers).”

“A long standing Thai restaurant. They have a lovely ambiance with a large amount of traditional wood interior and other touches, cozy and inviting, good service, prompt but not very personable (it would be nice to connect just a bit when ordering etc). The food was decent but nothing I found I could get excited about. Flavours were maybe a bit muted? Maybe this is what works for the clientele but I found myself wishing for a little more heat, citrus some sweet. The crispy beef was beyond just crispy and into hard crunch territory, having had the all the beef texture cooked out. Sauce was nice”

“Excellent experience and sorted a table slightly earlier than booked. Atmosphere is great and service is always with a smile. We ordered different noodles (flat rice noodles with chicken), panang curry, jasmine rice and mixed veg with the amazing pandan pancakes which were amazing!”
